The Historic Taos Inn has large, comfortable rooms with charming historic decor and wood burning fireplaces (which we used one chilly afternoon). The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The Inn is very quiet in the evening - slept well on king bed. The inviting lounge area serves excellent drinks and food and provides evening entertainment. The restaurant has excellent food and service. A good value at a historic Inn with character and charm.

Room Tip: Rooms with woodburning fireplaces a nice feature in winter. Older room have quiet and comfortable h...

My husband and I stayed in a two room suite. We had wanted to invite a local couple to our room for drinks, but the "living room" was not large enough. This suite was more suitable for a family with one or two young children who might want to put them on the sofa bed. It was great to have a second bathroom since the bathrooms are so tiny. For the same money spent on this suite, we could have had a really nice room at El Monte, but it would not have been downtown. We also would not have had the convenience of music every evening at Doc Martin's. Maid service was inconsistent. We had to request items like kleenex and toilet paper as they did not replace during daily service.

Room Tip: The two bed room suite is really not a suite. It is a tiny "living area" with a second ba...

Haven't stayed at the Inn, but spent a wonderful evening in the bar. Food was worthy and the music was unbelievable. Very lively, friendly atmosphere. Worth making a trip to Taos if you're traveling to Santa Fe. If you're staying in Taos, the Inn has gotten great word of mouth. But, the music scene was tremendous. Original music performed by locals. Loved every minute. And, the margaritas are tasty!

Room Tip: Can't address rooms as we just enjoyed the food and music.

Looking for a different kind of Christmas, we decided to attend the Christmas festivities in Taos and stay at the Historic Taos Inn for three days. The Inn has a wonderful lobby bar and lounge that was decorated to the hilt and was very inviting. We enjoyed the informality of the Inn and the multi-tasking staff who worked when they probably would have preferred being with their family. We had two great meals in their Doc Martin's dining room and found we didn't even want to leave the hotel in the evening for our dinner reservations at another of Taos' upscale restaurants. The staff was knowledgeable about the Vespers service and bonfire as well as the dances at the pueblo on Christmas day. Our room was rather small and quaint and could have used a little firmer, newer mattress but that didn't really detract from the wonderful time we had. The entertainmenbt each night in the lobby lounge was fun and added to our enjoyment. You can't beat the location, right in the center of town and the history of the hotel is worth reading about. The entire experience in Taos felt magical and very removed from our usual Christmas celebrations.

Room Tip: I imagine that rooms in the hotel itself could get pretty noisy but we stayed in the Courtyard rooms...

We have been staying at the Taos Inn for onwards of 25 years. It is so nicely located that sometimes we don't even use our car. The restaurant is very good, the live music is quirky fun- and it's free. The patio is a great place to watch the world go by.

There are lots of negative reviews for the Taos Inn and I would like to give some perspective. If you are looking for deluxe rooms with every amenity that a 5 star hotel has, this is not the place for you. It is an historic building, parts of it are 150 years old. It is built of adobe and the walls are 2 ft thick is some places. Wi fi does not carry in this type of situation, so that is why there is no wifi in rooms. There is a wired hookup however. The rooms don't have refrigerators as there is not adequate space or wiring for them. To even have the outlets they have required cutting channels for wiring in the walls then remudding the walls- something that can't be done over and over. The owners try very hard to offer a great experience at their Inn while keeping it historically correct as much as possible.

There have been comments about the layout of the Inn. The front part of the Inn is the result of several small houses cobbled together around a well- then the courtyard was added in the 1930's, I believe. The Sandoval house has been there since the mid to late 1800's. What I am trying to point out is that the Inn was not built to be an Inn, rather it was transformed into the Inn.

As I mentioned, we have been staying at the Taos Inn for at least 25 years and have never had a bad experience. They hire lots of locals to man the place and they are always friendly and helpful with lots of knowledge of the area- you just need to spend some time talking to them.

Room Tip: If you like old, the old section- If you want newer, Helen's House is for you.

The location is great and the food was yummy. The rooms are clean but the walls are paper thin. The conversations( and other things) in the other rooms can be heard word for word. The heater is appreciated but basically runs at either hot or off. No breakfast offered. No refrigerator in room. Comfy beds but took 3 pillows to equal the size of one. Would of relayed this too front desk but no one ever asked how my visit was...so will pick another place next time I decide to ski Taos.
