Second time we have stayed here. Unique inn, every room it's own style and lobby quaint old southwest charm. Nightly entertainment and upscale dinning. Great location to the old town square, lots of shops and cafes. Also many galleries and museums, great place for a stroll. Inn has very comfotable beds, but lacks modern conviences like refrigerators and microwaves. Also parking can be difficult as exiting can be. Some rooms a long haul from parking.

Room Tip: check layout guide

For several years as a group of five women who are experienced travelers, we have made a an overnight trek to Taos from southern Colorado or Santa Fe. The past two years we have stayed at the Taos Inn though not without significant check-in difficulties. The first year the hotel management blamed the problem on Expedia when we arrived and there was only one room available though we had reserved two. Eventually, the hotel manager made it right and we ended up with a suite that accommodated all of us quite nicely.

So this year, we reserved the same suite well in advance including paying for it a week before. Not to our surprise when we confirmed the reservation the day before, the suite was not available and we were offered a two room with two queen beds. Not a satisfactory arrangement. After a bit of back-and-forth from the most polite woman in the group, we ended up with a room that worked once we got a bent-frame roll away single bed that had M&Ms in it.

We have a tradition of enjoying a bit of wine and cheese before we leave for dinner. The weather was very nice in Taos this year, so we wanted to sit outside. The suite we originally reserved had an outside patio with table and chairs. The room we were offered this year did not, but there was a small patio table and chairs in front of a room around the corner. I went to the front desk to ask if they would temporarily move the patio set in front of our room. They wouldn't.

None of this ruined our stay, but it certainly doesn't show the hotel management in the best light. To be fair, the manager did come set up the awkward and heavy sofa bed that came with the room and they gave us a 10% discount off the room price.

The hotel is well-located, quaint, but a bit run-down and difficult to negotiate with narrow halls, surprise steps, and rough sidewalks. There is an active bar in the lobby and a good restaurant. Room service is accommodating, but the sheets and towels they offer are well-worn.

Don't know if we will stay there next year or not. If you choose to stay there, be aware of difficulties in room reservations.

The historic Taos Inn, in downtown Taos New Mexico is a wonderful place to spend a relaxing weekend with someone special. It’s charm reminds one of a time gone by where the people are friendly and the atmosphere is part cowboy and fully entertaining.

An older hotel with the typical creaks, squeaks and slightly uneven flooring that comes with time, its’ kiva fireplaces, period furnishings, artwork and serene patio areas combine for a truly delightful experience.

High quality entertainment changes nightly in the lobby area where the hotel food is tasty and plentiful. Beds and linens checked out clean and comfy and WiFi connections were a breeze.

The Taos Inn is a great place to unwind, meet friends, and take in the wonders of Taos. I will be back.

Stayed here for 2 nights on our New Mexico tour. Very handy location, just 3 minutes from the Plaza. An old establishment as expected, but clean. Not modern fittings in the Courtyard room, more like an old motel. Dined in the first night which was OK. Enjoyed the music from the bar area , where we sat after the meal. The second night, the music was not to our liking so we dined out.

I was last here 16 years ago with my husband. It was so nice and cozy back then. Left a great impression on me. That’s why I booked a room here again with my family. This time, the room smelled like it had been sprayed with a whole can of Lysol. Or maybe it was sprayed with insect spray because big horseflies keep finding their way into the room through the not-very-sealed window. Killed three so far. It’s open Mic night so the music and commotion from the lobby is quite loud in the room we are in which is next to the lobby. The WiFi is a struggle. Don’t bother with it, you’ll only get frustrated. The upside is the beds are very comfortable, the room and bathroom is very clean, the “historic” feel is definitely in the room, nice decor etc. I would stay here again because it’s at a great location, you can walk to the main points of Taos. The rooms are fun to stay in (except for us, the Lysol/insecticide smell and the big horseflies in our room). The receptionist and everyone who works here is very nice and very accommodating.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. Experiences like yours are helpful in our ongoing effort to improve. I can say that the courtyard rooms are quieter, as they're farther from our live entertainment. As a historic property every room is completely unique. We are always happy to move guests who's rooms do not meet their expectations. We only ask you contact the front desk. We hope to see you again some time. Best wishes and happy travels!
