This is a wonderful placr to stay to get a feel for parts of the more recent history of Taos. The hose has portions that are over 200 ytears old with the balance being added in the 1920's, but all of it makes for unified, whole and an amazing experience. No two doors, for example, are quite alike; walls are thick to the outside and the breezes make this place magic. DH Lawrence painted the glass on on one of the baths and this adds a kind of old counter spin to corners of the place and the experience. The morning breakfast is second to none and prepared in an old time working kitchen. Remarkable place; and not just a site for sight-seeing but a place to discover what is inside.

Room Tip: These rooms are all unique and are posted explicitly with price and description on the website. I d...

Mabel Dodge came out from NYC a century ago and never left. She collected artists, including D.H.Lawrence, Georgia O'Keefe, Edward Stieglitz, Ansel Adams....and Willa Cather, whose room we stayed in. Mabel Dodge fell in love with Tony Luhan, a member of Taos Nation, I believe, who built the rambling adobe-style place. Its colorful history continued when Dennis Hopper bought it in the 1960s.
It's now a retreat center and we went for a special event. Lovely hospitality, amazing food,
the house is a designated landmark and on the National Historic Register.
Though hospitality and service were outstanding, our room not so much, though I believe there is a big variety on this expansive property.
The ambience can't be beat.

Room Tip: Call them beforehand to discuss rooms.

A beautiful Taos adobe inside and out makes for a truly unique experience. The manager was so kind and attentive. Delicious homemade cookies and wide of drinks made a homey atmosphere. Great breakfast!

We had a bit of trouble finding this place, but it was so worth it! The history of the house is fascinating. Our room was the Robinson Jeffers. Beautiful room. It was very comfortable in May, but might get a little warm during the summer months - not sure if there is A/C. Breakfast was scrumptious!

This is a place to come for respite and personal reflection, as well as interacting with the other guests from near and far. Upon entering the Mabel Dodge you can just imaging the salon conversations from the past. We stayed in the solarium on the week of Easter. Ascending the stairs can be a bit tricky but once on top, the view is incomparable. There are 3 and 1/2 walls totally of glass. The morning sun rising and the evening sun setting is a site to behold. The bed was very comfortable and the private bath was also surrounded by glass walls. You still have your privacy though. The staff was extremely friendly and the breakfast was quite a spread. My husband and I had so much fun visiting with the different travelers each morning. The courtyards are lovely and the property behind the Mabel Dodge is Taos Pueblo property so visually, the view from anywhere looking out is very special. Staying at the Mabel Dodge really does capture the spirit of Taos.

Room Tip: Peeked in the other rooms and all looked very nice.

I booked the solarium and was really excited about staying here. The atmosphere is so beautiful and everything inside is really charming. The problem is there's no real privacy. You can hear everything your neighbors say and do and they can hear you too. As a private person, I found the stay to be uncomfortable. Too bad, they get a lot right. The beds are comfy and the rooms are beautiful. Also breakfast is only from 8-9 every day so we missed it.

The Mabel Dodge Luhan House is truly a unique and glorious experience. It's steeped in history, it was the site of salons for the likes of Aldous Huxley, D.H. Lawrence, Carl Jung, Martha Graham, Georgia O'Keefe, and many, many more, and it abuts land of the Taos Pueblo. I stayed in the Solarium or Eagle's Nest. Wow! Windows on all 4 sides. Views of the mountains, the Pueblo, trees, and the entire complex. A glorious way to commune with the heavens!! And the food!!! Non-stop yumminess. The cuisine changed daily and was equally spectacular each day. I'm a bit of a foodie, I know good food, and I compare the food here with the food in most 4-5 restaurants in NYC, San Fran, and elsewhere. This is an experience not to be missed!!

Room Tip: Can't beat the Solarium but the steps up to it are steep!
