Owner description: Formed in 1923 by Lucy Harwood and several members of the Taos Society of Artists, the Harwood Museum of Art is the second oldest museum in New Mexico. The museum has been affiliated with the University of New Mexico since 1935, and it now boasts the internationally acclaimed Agnes Martin Gallery, galleries exhibiting highlights from the museum's collection of work by the Taos Society of Artists, Taos Moderns, Hispanic Traditions, and contemporary artists working in Taos, and changing exhibitions fulfilling the Harwood's vision to "Bring Taos Arts to the World and World Arts to Taos."

Thank you for your note! Actually the Fechin House houses the Taos Art Museum, located at 227 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte. The Harwood Museum of Art is an entirely separate museum, located at 238 Ledoux Street (near Taos Plaza). Both great museums, but definitely separate!

The Harwood is a small gem of a museum. My favorite is the room dedicated to the work of Agnes Martin, where you can sit in the middle of a rounded room and soak up her giant canvases. A great selection of Taos artists, from older to more modern, and the museum also hosts events like readings and lectures. A must.

Thanks for your review! Visitors from all over the world come to the Harwood in order to experience the Agnes Martin Gallery. In addition to that magical space, the Harwood exhibits historic and contemporary art created throughout the centuries in our very special part of the world.

Features modern art, some of which looked like someone cleaning his/her brush on a piece of canvas and then trying to pass it off as "art." There are perhaps half a dozen pieces in this museum that I would classify as "art" -- most of the rest could have been done by a 6-year-old.

We went to the Harwood last week primarily to view the exhibit of Woody Crumbo's works. The museum and the various collections on display were really outstanding. The Crumbo exhibit is being shown through September 8, 2013.

We took a visit to this museum after hearing about it from the folks of the RC Gorman Gallery. We specifically went to see the Gorman display, but were surprised by the art of the other artists as well. Definitely worth the trip.
