“Fine Mexican Cuisine in an Unpretentious Setting”
Reviewed 9 May 2013

I love small, owner operated, non-chain restaurants. We went to La Cueva Café expecting good local Mexican food. What we found, much to our delight, was fine Mexican cuisine. The molé was excellent - not just brown chocolate sauce but a work of art - a wonderful marriage of chiles and chocolate. Everything was well and imaginatively prepared and artistically presented. The prices are reasonable and the ambience was lovely. One note - La Cueva does not serve liquor, wine or beer. That allowed us to really focus on the food!

“The Best Ever! Don't miss the Key Lime pie! - offers gluten free”
Reviewed 21 April 2013

This restaurant was an amazing end to our day in Taos. First, everyone knows you can judge a restaurant by its salsa, and this one didn't disappoint. I had the gluten free chile rellenos (a rare treat if you are gluten intolerant). My companion had the special chicken mole which was also delicious! The service is friendly with excellent attention to detail such as homemade lemonade. This is one of those gems that you continue to go back to - especially for the key lime pie. This was the best I have ever tasted. I will continue to make this a regular stop when I travel to Taos.

“Excellent food”
Reviewed 19 April 2013

We stopped her based on the Tripadvisor reviews. This is possibly the smallest restaurant I have ever seen! It does have an outdoor seating area (where we dined). We traveled through New Mexico and this was possibly the best meal we had eaten all week.

Excellent chips, salsa and guacamole. We ordered the taco salad, fajitas and shrimp tacos and a corn based soup... just delicious.

“Try the Key Lime pie”
Reviewed 15 April 2013

We were looking for a quick lunch and were lucky to find a table at this small, popular Taos eatery. A patron (clearly a regular) hearing us talk about how good our lunch was said "the key lime pie was to die for". We heartily agree.

“Mucho gusto!”
Reviewed 7 April 2013 via mobile

We went based on a trip advisor recommendation and we fell in love with this tiny treasure of a restaraunt! The front room seats only about 10 people, and we were happy to get there early before it filled up. Everything is made from scratch including the red and green chile.... When ordering a dish that has the option of red or green, go for Christmas (=both) to get a sampling of each and to experience the subtle differences. The guacamole is fantastic too. Our waiter was delightful and recommended the key lime pie for dessert. It was rich and tangy with the surprising addition of toasted coconut shavings sprinkled on top. No item on the menu was over $13. There is no bar service, however.
