We probably would have never gone into this place if we didn't meet someone walking in town who recommended it. They have 2 buildings and they were so busy that we were seated in the storage room with the freezer. Didn't matter to us. The food was delicious, no alcohol though. We got used to drinking a lot of iced tea in New Mexico.

We wanted some New Mexican style food, and this hit the spot! We had tacos and enchiladas which were excellent. Our waiter recommended key lime pie, and it truly was very tasty. The waiter was very friendly and provided great sevice even though it was pretty busy. Would recommend this restaurant.

We live in NM and eat a lot of Mexican food. We have been to Taos and have had Mexican food there but were always a little disappointed. When someone recommended La Cueva, we figured, "Oh well. We can try it . But ..." We did not expect much.

La Cueva is VERY SMALL and not great looking form the outside. But inside, while small, it is very comfortable and the service is GREAT. The food is the best we have had in Taos, and maybe even Santa Fe! We had heard that the Chile Rellenos were awesome and they definitely lived up to the claim.

From now on when we want Mexican in Taos, there is only one place to go - LA CUEVA !!!

I went there because of the good reviews on Trip advisor. It is a small family owned restaurant. The owner took my order and was very helpful explaining various dishes to me as I am not very familiar with Mexican style food. His wife was there and they were both very friendly. I ordered a shrimp burrito with a light chipotle sauce that was delicious!

We went for dinner so maybe expectations a bit higher. No alcohol can be a disappointment which with the food , you might want a cold one which was not available.

had Caesar salad, ok and the shrimp tacos, very good but we were never asked if we preferred flour tortillas ( which we heard another table being offered) Honestly, very sick of the whole 'we are gluten free" thing. Who cares, most people who claim to be intolerant are not telling the truth or have not been definitively diagnosed anyway. But places make money on their claims to be gluten friendly. What about the rest of us who want flour and wheat?

Anyhow, also had the steak asada which was very good. Staff was uninterested in us. Food served, attempted plate snatching before we were done. you know the drill.

Might do take out but would not go again for dinner when a slightly elevated ambiance and service would be nice,
