My husband and I spent 3 days at this hotel. It truly is an amazing place! Great services, beautiful decor, tranquil and so relaxing. Its a hidden gem! Its no wonder Conde Naste Traveler put this hotel on their Gold list. I can't say enough good things about this place. The food was great, the pool and hottub were awesome. The spa was wonderful. They recirculate the water here and there are water features and vegitation all over the place. If you need a place to just get away from it all, this is the place! :)

Room Tip: Standard room are very nice with western decor and it only gets better after that. You have many ty...

We stayed in the Native American suite. We enjoyed the aesthetics of the hotel and the room and appreciated the modern facilities at the same time. After we settled in, we had a good experience. Initially, we were not sure. I had requested in advance a crib. It turns out that this Marriott hotel had only one crib and it broke. It took almost two hours to sort out the crib and refrigerator issues, delaying the time when we could put our son down to much needed sleep. The space where there was supposed to be a refrigerator was empty. While I explained the situation to Marissa who checked us in, she didn't act on the issue right away. We needed the fridge to store milk for our son. We had no choice but to put our son in the pack n play, even though he is too big. Housekeeping went above and beyond to make the pack n play work, bringing a crib mattress, extra blankets and sheets, etc. The dining room staff was very solicitous and the food was good. Please note that parking is $12 per day and internet access is $10 per day. When you pay so much for a room, you'd hope that such amenities would be included. Otherwise, we very much enjoyed our stay.

I visited Taos last March 2011 from Canada and stayed at El Monte Sagrado, and am excited to return again over Christmas. This was one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever staid in- with amazing food, friendly staff and a relaxing spa. I have travelled all over the world and the hospitality and quality of this hotel is the best. The staff were personable and went out of my way to make my stay memorable. They arranged all of my transportation to the airport and to the ski hill.
I especially enjoyed the "comforting" feeling of home with pets being allowed.
Taos, and El Monte Sagrado are a hidden gem that the adventurous traveler needs to discover!

Room Tip: If you view the south-east side, you will see the mountains and the field/orchard where dogs play.

The young man at the front desk was unqualified (Matthew) for the level of clientele he was serving. I could hear him complaining about the guests when I was waiting in the lobby as he spouted "and I was like...Dude sorry you don't like your room..." I am sure he can type just fine and answer the phone but he doesn't get what it means to be hospitable and the true meaning of customer service, it might be his age.
Also the music in the pool area was horrible! Bad 80's90's rock songs when one is trying to relax. Everyone we met in the pool area agreed. The maid walked right into our bedroom at 8:55 a.m., this is the third time at that hotel I have had this happen. Everywhere we went there were 'out of order' signs from the spa steam room to the gym equipment and gym bathrooms. The 'complimentary parking' which I was told was across the street was 8 blocks away and although the lot was nearly empty I was told I had to park way down there and walk back unless I wanted to pay $12 per day (again where is the hospitality, it was a monday and empty!). The clocks in the room were never changed from 2 days before, there was no mini fridge in the room (we wanted to save our dessert and beverages but nope). The library room was closed early and when I asked to get in the service guy unlocked it from within, he looked like he was napping in there. The beautiful plants off the pool have the signs broken off and just don't look as nice as they used to, maybe it's the music. We were not felt welcome after our checkout when trying to still use the facilities (a 4 p.m check in and 11 a.m. check out for this quality of a hotel?? never heard of this....check the Tamaya Resort and their standards of service, they 'get' it). We were brought the wrong food at dinner even though we were the only ones dining. Then someone dropped an entire platter....shall I go on? Something is seriously wrong with the management, it's not what it used to be years back. This hotel needs some 'special' attention to make the guests feel welcome. There is no reason so many of the facilities had 'not working, sorry' signs on them. The shower off the gym had no hot water. Someone needs to walk around the property and just make sure everything is up to standard and working well. It lacks this 'attention.'

What a creation of comfort and solace! The setting, the architecture, the ambience, the price, the comfort, the entire staff from valet through gift store and office personnel to receptionist, and the entrees and saline pool and conservatory entirely combined to deliver a RESPITE - not just a 20-hr- stay. Seriously, from the moment of stepping out of the car, the experience was relaxing and restorative even without a massage of any sort or any other extraordinary service. The personalities of the valet and of the receptionist were gladdening and alacritous yet patient. The abundant artwork whether it be any of the sculptures on the grounds, the carved beams, the mirrors hung on exterior walls, or the benches or the framed pieces along with the aromas and melodies wafting along the cloister-like walkways wove together a calming and inspiring experience. The grounds and the setting contributed to framing and staging a continuing base of beauty to enjoy. The live piano music was melodious and sparkled just enough to enhance the dining experience in a room that seemed acoustically well designed. The saline pool - the water and the setting- capped this restful and exquisite experience. The entrees were special and excellent but not exorbitant or dramatic. What a bargain for the service! For all this, the AARP-discounted charge was similar to an ordinary room at the Marriott. The room was in a class by itself and not just because of the gas fireplace and a roomy balcony. Through it all, you'd never know that you were lodging by a busy street. THANK YOU Kessler Hotels.

Room Tip: had 2 different rooms coming and going; both good.

We stayed at El Monte Sagrado for 2 nights in October. Over all we were quite pleased with our stay in one of the Native American suites. We realize that the suites are designed to give a feel for what it was like living in a pueblo dwelling. They do push it a bit far. The suite bath pictured has about an 18 inch 2 foot high ledge to climb over to get in. The only way I could do it was to sit on the cold marble ledge and awkwardly swing my legs through the narrow opening. We talked to management about this and they said the issue was being addressed.
The rooms were very dark, and had concrete floors covered with little throw rugs. The furniture was all southwest and the desk was not comfortable. The grounds were spectacular, and the food was excellent. I wish they would just include the parking and Wifi in the room rate. Paying to park in a remote place like Taos was strange.
Bottom line we would stay here again if we ever return to Taos. Not a very pretty place with not much to do. Santa Fe was much more interesting.

My wife and I have stayed at resorts all over the Midwest and West.......this resort by far was the best!! Not only are the grounds and facilities top-notch, the service and staff really make this place. The mountain view room we had was a real treat. The decor and comfort of the room was great. Both of us had spa treatments in the their spa. Probably the best spa both of us have ever been in. As for the food, I would recommend any time to eat there. We had breakfast every morning and one dinner. Obviously, you will want to check-out the local restaurants in Taos since they have such wonderful places, but the food in this resort is definetly above average. We used the concierge service also, Their was one named Kirsten and she went out of her way to find cool things for us to do (took a 3 hour pottery class) and a great unique restaurant to go too also, called Love Apple. In addition, they became affiliated with Marriott in the past year or so and I find that Marriott has great standards as well. All in all, I can't wait to go back.
