Beautiful charming place with everything you can look for in a hotel. The staff are well trained and were there to jump at our every request. The spa services were incredable. We had a wonderful dinner as well.

Stayed in one of the cabins for a killer promotional deal from travelzoo (119/night). Room was nice suite style. No bath but a walk-in shower which was good except for only having the giant rain showerhead (spouse loved it - I disliked it). Loved the pool and hot tub. Food at Tierra was very good. Breakfast was tasty and reasonably priced in a pretty arboretum. Everyone was super polite ("thanks," i said. "my pleasure," they responded). Everything was clean (including the silver coffee urns).

The bed was small, too hard and bounced whenever one of us turned over (and we are not overweight).

Paying for parking anywhere in NM is ridiculous. We have more room than pretty much any state. We parked down the street in the public park's parking area and walked the 5 mins to our room.

We felt welcome from the moment we arrived, and the property is beautiful, with or without plenty of snow. We stayed in the Native American Suite. Room service was fine, and the housekeeping staff was attentive. Every one in valet was friendly and helpful, and the Spa was one of the most enjoyable anywhere we've been. The library is warm and full of art, the walking paths are wonderful. Only ate at the Anaconda and it was average; I'm sure De la Tierra would be worth trying. It's a pleasant drive through some of the most beautiful mountains anywhere to the Taos Ski Valley. The road was passable even with up to 8 inches of snow.

We booked a "global suite" - a splurge, but well worth it. Two couples, each with separate bedroom and bath, and a shared living room with fireplace, outdoor terrace, hot tub. Plenty of space to spread out and relax without getting in each other's way. Staff went out of its way to be sure we were happy with the rooms, and provided quick, unobtrusive service. Very nice lunch when we arrived, too. We didn't take advantage of the many spa offerings, since we were already planning to do a lot of running around the area with other friends. Eco-friendly, stunning views, too.

This is a gorgeous resort, very upscale, very romantic. The pool area is outstanding with curving pools and hot tub among lovely well-tended plant-life. Felt tropical. There is a tiny gallery upstairs and a tinier gallery shop downstairs with very overpriced items. Since it was quite cold, we did not get to enjoy much of what appears to be stunning gardens and landscape - scupture and fountains. However, the room was well worth the trip. it was spacious, with attractive decor, large heavily-draped hot tub dead center, and gas fireplace in the corner. Sliding glass doors led to a patio and an occulded view of the mountains. (The higher up your room, the better the view of the mountains.) Toilet located in a small closet adjoining the roomy, well-designed shower area. The frosted window between toilet and shower was unexpected and awkward. Tile flooring, plaster walls, comfortable expensive bedding all led to our wanting to spend most of the trip in the room!
The theme was eclectic - SouthWest meets Manhattan. There was a turqoise bejeweled bull skull over the fireplace, a suede blanket, faux hide door panels on the armoire. It is difficult to resist picking the turquoise off of the pillow encrusted with them. Otherwise the room is uber-boutique. Do not expect much privacy if you bring a companion along.
The staff was not as helpful as I would have liked for them to be. I put in a call to the concierge that was never returned. Had to trek to the front dest to have my questions answered. Once there, the man at the desk was very nice. Other than him, it seemed there was a completely different set of staff people around every day. The cleaning was not always thoughtful -- we got bath salts on only two of the 5 days we stayed -- even though we used the tub daily. It is helpful to know some Spanish as the cleaning staff seem to know little Ingles.
There is a good spa on the property. Though the treatments are expensive, they are well worth it. I was pleased with the gentle and professional work of both Maya and Heidi. They are locals who knowledgeable about the area and willing to talk about it.
The resort is rather sprawling and winding with multiple buildings. You must leave the room to do anything (unless you request a room near the front desk.) So be prepared to go outside regularly. (Would not be bad if it had not been 7 degrees!) The pathways are delightfully flowing and every detail from the lighting to the railings have been designed to appeal to the senses. There is a magnificent ballroom with a baby grand piano. It would be a perfect place to hold a wedding or a quincenera.
Do not expect the resort to be very walkable to the downtown unless you are young and in good condition. Town is 3-4 city blocks uphill.
Taos is wonderful for those of us who have a passion for art and jewelry. There is a lot of very good food around the town as well. We plan to return to Taos in the summer with adult children in tow -- and we will keep the El Monte Sagrado resort romantic experience to ourselves!

The hotel is beautiful and our room was superb. Unfortunately, the hostess (not the server) in the restaurant was extremely rude and unprofessional both times we encountered her. In fact, she recruited some of her young fellow employees to sneer and laugh at us after we'd complained about the service being poor - they are terribly understaffed. I've never been so humiliated in my life and for this reason will not return. It is unfortunate that one bad apple, well, you know...We overheard another customer complaining to the management about the hotel being operated by young, inexperienced, and unprofessional staff. So I guess he encountered some difficulties too. How sad!

I'm a local who took my son to lunch after Christmas. The staff is very welcoming and pleasant but I was shocked by the condition of the public areas.
Things are getting very shopworn and I'm not sure they have a maintenance staff.

We sat beside the poor fish tank which really needed cleaning and was very unappetizing -- and the floor was filthy. I mean piles of dust that had been swept up and not removed, and it needed a good scrubbing as did the furniture. They brought our coffee in tarnished silver pots. It was such a shame.
At one time this hotel sparkled. But it seems to be in trouble now.
