“The meal we hoped for in Taos”
Reviewed 21 August 2013

We were looking on our one night in Taos to have a sit-down meal with a good margarita and a northern New Mexican dinner at a reasonable price. You would imagine there would be a big choice. But if you eliminate those that are expensive and those at the other end with florescent lights screaming at you, and those that don't serve alcohol, it was a slim choice in this town of 5000+. We did read the previous TripAdvisor review, but decided to try it anyway since it was close to our motel. Glad we did. It's nothing like what the other reviewer experienced and it's hard to account for the difference. Make up your own mind. We had delicious margaritas, quick and polite service, and some of the best food of our two week trip through CO and NM. The chile rellenos with either green or red chile were some of the best we have had. And our beef tacos and chicken enchilada were fine. That enchilada had exceptionally nice breast meat chicken. The lettuce and tomato salad added good color and freshness to the big plates. Sopapilla with honey was a sweet pleasant ending. If we lived here we would be regulars.

“Disgusting......Stay Away”
Reviewed 6 June 2013

Stay away!!!! My friends and I went to go have dinner. Food was so unappealing. Not worth the price. Staff is rude.. This may be a family owned restaurant but this and its other restaurant *Mante's* which we went to the following day are AWFUL!!!

“Soggy Tortilla Chips - Soggy Food”
Reviewed 9 May 2013

Our first meal this trip in New Mexico and it was not a good one. The soggy stale chips were a bad o en for the rest of the meal. Even though I hadn't eaten for 11 hours, I was not able to finish my sopapilla relleno with beef - unseasoned hamburger inside a soggy thick sopapilla covered with unremarkable red chile. The waitress, when questioned on the house specialty Adovado was not able to tell us what Adovado was. I've eaten a lot of Mexican food, from the neighborhoods in Chicago to Santa Fe and Taos. This food was the worst.

“Authentic Mexican Food in the Mts”
Reviewed 30 April 2013

We received a recommendation from a local store that to have true Mexican food in Taos go to La Cocina. Food was excellent, and reasonably priced. Not as flashy as some in Taos, but is family owned, and provides wonderful tastes. You can't go wrong.

“What the Heck? Who allows this?”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

After a long hard week we decided to try La Cocina. It was a Friday nite and we were looking forward to a nice meal, boy were we disappointed. We stood for a long time at the hostess station just to be seated, while we waited we were shocked to see 4 little kids running around the seating area and lobby screaming , chasing each other around the tables and throwing a ball back and forth. The other two tables seated simply ignored the kids, obviously the kids belonged to them. We seriously thought about leaving, but were seated. We placed our order and tried our best to ignore the screaming kids. My dining companion ordered steak fajitas and when they arrived they were hardly recognizable, the steak was burnt and cut into small over salted inedible pieces. What a disappointment! My combination plate was just OK, nothing to write home about and the entire dinner was way overpriced. I asked that my hot wings be cooked well done and the server said no problem, when they arrived they were soggy and bloody red inside....YUK.....
The icing on the cake was when one of the screaming out of control kids climbed onto the fire place and squeezed onto our table, while we were eating. We finally had enough and asked the parents to control their kid, to which they responded by packing up and leaving and get this; the screaming kids were the owner/server's grandkids! That's why nobody did anything to control the situation. Bottom line..... go to Taoseno Restaurant instead, more reasonably priced, better atmosphere, way better food and no screaming kids throwing balls around and climbing on top of your table while you eat.
