Incredible views of the Rio Grande Gorge and Red River rift! All the hiking trails are well marked and over great views. Camped here on the Big Arsenic Campground. Staff and volunteers incredible friendly, helpful and just great people! Will definitely return!
The views, vistas, hikes, camping sites and fishing are all outstanding, first class. I hiked for hours and only saw 2 other hikers.
This is a wonderful place for camping and there are hikes of varying difficulty. In NM water is precious and you can get to the confluence of the Rio Grande and the Red River here. Not to crowded.
Beautiful hike about 45 minutes north of Taos, abundant wildflowers at the confluence of Rio Grande and Red Rivers.
Amazing views, solitude, great hiking into the gorges.... the best camping experience close to Taos in my opinion.
My niece and I hiked the La Junta trail--at 800 vertical feet, the steepest in the park. The climb was challenging, but exhilarating once completed. Rockslides make footing on the initial descent somewhat difficult, but switchbacks along the trail make it manageable for climbers in reasonably good condition. The trail takes you to the banks of two rivers that converge. Rangers advised that the round-trip could take up to 3 hours, but we completed it in about 2-1/4 hours, including time spent at the bottom.
