“We arrived at just at the right time”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

We arrived quite early and looked round the part with easy public access before realising there were tours which could be paid for later. If we had arrived later we would probably have paid. And it looks like paying for the tour wasn't the best option considering previous reviews. The site was very photogenic and quite interesting. I am rather sceptical about how 'off grid' energy by solar panels is (manufacturing and transportation costs taken into account) also tyres are recycled but doesn't transportation to the site negate any environmental benefit? Thought provoking and I'm glad we stopped, in any case...........

“Good to stop and see but just look don't pay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2013

We went while the visitor center was closed so we didn't pay but walking around right there was enough especially now that I read the other reviews. Very interesting to see, doesn't take a lot of time.

“Intersting Stop Along the Way”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 October 2013

My wife, 11 month old son and I stopped by the Earthships Community while leaving Taos heading west on US 64 in early September 2013. We heard from others they are neat to see but not worth paying $7 per person for a less than thrilling tour. So we stopped briefly and skipped the tour. The earthships are neat looking up close and along US 64. It is impressive how many there are, as the community goes on for several miles along the highway. Considering there wasn't much to do by not taking the tour, we probably would not have stopped if it wasn't on the way. Maybe if the tour wasn't $7,or you could go into more than the visitor center, more people would stop by.

“Not worth it”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2013

Great concept but horrible waste of money to visit this site. Only had a short video to watch and toured the earthship...when we were driving up we got excited to see the models as they looked interesting from the outside. But no...they do not let you view them...not sure if anybody lives there or not. Heard from our bar tender in Sagebrush inn that they want 200bucks a square foot....Hope they realize people are interested but its a lot of money to build a home...so much more to see around Taos...the Pueblo is the best Even paying a dollar is too much and a waste of time

“Don't waste your time”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2013

What's really cruel about the Earthship "neighborhood" is that it has so much potential to be a great attraction and selling point for integrating new technologies into modern life -- and it wastes it entirely. Forget paying the $7 for the "tour." All that gets you is a walk around a corridor with plants, a video you could probably find online, mock ups of some technology and a return to the gift shop with a snippy attendant. The whole thing takes about 10 minutes. You can walk around the visitor center but that's it.

Nothing else is open to the public. There is no model home. There are no videos of people who live in the homes. The architecture/design center across from the model is closed. You can't even walk around and see the houses, or talk to residents. Better visit the Taos Pueblo. The people there are much more friendly. I would give this a "zero" if I could, thinking that one dot is far too generous.
