The restaurant is in the El Monte Sagrado, which is a splendid modern resort. There are several restaurant areas; we dined in an interior room that was decorated in a Southwestern/Victorian style with high-backed, heavy, dark, navy chairs that were smothered in gold tassels - bizarre.

The choice of food was good; being fish eaters we started with mussels then I had the trout and my wife the salmon. The dishes were perfectly prepared with a nice complement of tasty vegetables.

The wine list was awful. The first page had a list of mediocre wines at modest prices, while the remainder of the book contained page after page of outrageously expensive wines (up to $1880).

The service was slow and inattentive. Our waitress clearly had little experience and could only say "my pleasure" to everything we asked of her; we wanted to say "what about our pleasure?"

The restaurant itself was almost empty yet was busy and noisy. This was because it was used as a cut through for staff and guests who came through from all points of the compass. Moreover, there is an atrium above this space where kids were running and shouting, loud guests were making phone calls by speaker phone, etc.

In summary, the meal was excellent but the ambiance was terrible and the wine list lousy; this was not an enjoyable evening. Taos has better places.

Our family of 6 ate here for dinner during our family ski trip. The salmon came out partially raw, vegetables were cold, bison was very tough and grisselly (cooked MR), tuna snd Elk were not surpurb either. The sub-par service was not acceptable. We could not locate our waitress for 10 min and had to go to the bar to get our own drinks. The property is beautiful here but unfortunately I cannot recommend the restaurant.

We ate from the restaurant menu while sitting in the Anaconda Bar.

There usually isn't much you can say about calamari but we will be planning a trip back to El Monte Sagrado as much for the calamari as anything else!

And the Green Chili Mac and Cheese - zowie!

Loved it. Didn't experience the restaurant - had reservations but chose to continue relaxing at the bar but if the restaurant experience is anything like it's food - gotta go back!

We've been waiting over 30 minutes already for a continental breakfast!! So far all we have is coffee and juice. When the food did arrive the English was stone cold. The yogurt and muffins were good. Wait staff are mixed - some are friendly, some are not. Overall a frustrating start to the day.
