Could stay here for the rest of my life. Richard is a gracious and warm host, with a remarkable eye for homemaking. He has created something truly special here, a sight to behold in and of itself. Also, Farm fresh eggs every morning from feathery neighbors across the lawn.

It was love at first sight for us. After finding our way there in the dark, it felt like a welcome home to walk into our casita - complete with firewood, candles, a bottle of wine, fresh eggs, fresh coffee & tea, and a beautiful spread of tiny dishes of fresh snacks on the antique wooden table, with colorful fabrics and local artwork all around. We were especially delighted by the kitchen - little & cute & with everything one could need, and we loved the peaceful bedroom and deck with a view of the mountains. Indeed, we were so cozy and comfortable in our little house that we skipped the next day's planned skiing and just stayed in by the fire, with a couple of trips outdoors to feed scraps to the very entertaining flock of chickens! It is so apparent that a great deal of loving care has gone into the renovation and maintenance of these cottages and surrounding grounds. Richard was away that weekend, and Sean, our substitute host, was fantastic, telling us about the best places to catch live music and good restaurants in town. We were completely enchanted by Casa Gallina and can't wait to visit again.

Room Tip: Loved the Bantam Roost casita!

We were so enchanted with Casa Gallina. We arrived very late the first night but our host, Richard, had left the casita warm and filled with yummy snacks. The casita was adorable, every little detail was something new to marvel at.
The back yard was filled with chickens so we had fresh eggs for breakfast and later that afternoon Richard stopped by with some really great freshly baked chocolate chip quinoa cookies. If we knew how much we were going to enjoy our stay we would have planned a longer trip.
It was a perfect stay in a perfect setting. If you are heading to Taos, stay at Casa Gallina and tell Richard we'll be back.

My husband and I spent five days at Casa Gallina in October, 2013. He had been there before we were married, but words and pictures could not describe how beautiful it is. Our casita was warm and welcoming, and we appreciated the lovely late afternoon spread that Richard provided. This was the studio casita which was perfect for two people. The kitchen was well stocked and Richard even provides internet access as well as a laptop right in the casita. What a great convenience! The fresh eggs from the chickens out in back were over the top. Richard was a wonderful host, recommended restaurants and especially a spa with natural springs (about an hour's drive) which was wonderful. We loved the fireplace, since it was chilly when we were there.
What a perfect romantic spot to be in with my husband.

Richard Spera has created a restorative oasis in the desert!

Casa Gallina, a stone's throw from Taos Mountain, is an enchanted artisan inn where detail, design, charm, and generosity intersect. Upon arrival, I walked into the stunning "Leghorn" casita greeted by pinon wood perfectly arranged in the fireplace, a bottle of red wine, fresh eggs (thanks to the chickens on the pastoral property), local goat cheese, and the attentive, stylish and thoughtful host himself.

The casitas and surrounding gardens inspire deeper breathing and a country pace (exactly what I was looking for in a trip to Taos). And Richard matches the beauty of the shangra-la he's created by providing his guests with a nourishing and rejuvenating vacation experience. This is a magical place not to be missed!

I loved this place and it's wonderful host Richard. We'd shared our two bedroom split with our sinister and brother in law in June 2013 on a stop and go trip that started in Albuquerque, and made stops in sante fe, Taos and then on to Durango for our daughters wedding. What a lovely setting ..... I could have sated a week. A great location with a backroad to many wonderful restaurants. Richard has the take on all the great places. I learned about chickens here as there is a grand chicken house and many chickens, we had fresh eggs every morning. A well equipped kitchen and lots of details in our casa. I wish we had taken the time to use the kitchen more as well as the grounds, next visit I will plan a trip to the store and cook more using the fresh herbs and eggs Richard shares. I spent some time just watching the chickens and they are so unique. Although we did not have a child traveling with us there was one in the casa next door, the toddler was mesmerized by the chickens. What a great place and excellent value.

Room Tip: We shared a split two bedroom that had a washer dryer in one bath that had a shower, the other room...

Mid-September 2013, my birthday and my wife asks where would I like to spend it. We are on our first road trip in 30 years, somewhere between the Grand Canyon South Rim and Tulsa: I say Taos, thinking I always wanted to see that hard ball mountain where the powder snow was so good. She hears, "Taos, artists' community." A match made in heavenly miscommunication. Richard Spera, owner and creator par exellence, brought it all together for us, with such attention to just the right details and the so very rare ability to connect with us intimately but not intrusively. A true life experience. Be there or miss out: one of life's easy, best choices! Chuck Farrar, Grass Valley, CA

Room Tip: View from Bantam Roost private deck is killer!
