“Another great experience”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

Last week, September 17th and 18th 2013, I stayed at the Kachina Lodge and it was another great experience. Every year I look forward to walking the six acres of grounds at the Kachina and seeing those historic old buildings surrounded by nearby mountains. On this visit I learned that many celebraties have stayed at the Kachina, including; Dennis Hopper, Peter Fonda, Ty Murray and his wife Jewel, Christopher Lloyd, Julia Roberts, and others. I can't wait to go back.

This was my first time time to stay at the Kachina and I have to say it was a great one. The room was spacious and clean and a perfect base of operations for sight seeing around Taos. Highly recommended.

Love this place, have stayed here many times before and as always the service and reception were great! This Lodge is very old fashioned in style and a wonderful place to use as a base for touring in the area. The rooms vary in size and but are well appointed and set out. Yes there have been some changes since they decided to part company with Best Western, who were asking them to make changes that would have in my opinion taken away from the ambience and style of this old lodge! Sometimes change is not for the 'Best'! :-)
Some of the other changes that took place at this time was the removal of several staff members in order to maintain the high standards that the Lodge wishes to keep to!
Suffice to say in reading some of the slightly older reviews on here I get the impression that one or two of them seem some what biased and altogether smacks of local folks unhappy with those changes! ;-( LOL the power of social media HUH! Anyway, for this humble traveler I will be back again next september for my long weekend away from the Valley of the SUN! :-) <3

Room Tip: They have quieter rooms towards the back of the facility, as some night they have a campfire where t...

Went up to Taos for the weekend. We stayed 2 nights at the Kachina. The room was clean and the location was great, just a 5 minute walk to the Plaza. The hotel was charming and the pool was the perfect place to relax in the evenings, over all a beautiful trip

We stayed here when it was still manged by Best Western and the quality was modest. However, when Kachina Lodge changed management - the service went DOWN HILL.
The floors were so nasty and sticky that I didn't take off my shoes. Very uncomfortable.
The food was greasy, dry and God knows how long it was in the buffet area.

This hotel has a historical charm I have not seen in any other hotel in Taos, my husband and i were here last month and while the stay was nice then we were very pleased to see so many improvements and upgrades happening. We will definitely come again.

This is a Best Western and as we had had good experiences with this chain we ted for it before checking it out big mistake. Although charming on the outside the rooms did not match up. Old and tired, there was: No microwave, no fridge, no coffee maker, no iron and no tissues. The Indian dancers were nice but dinner not. Their licence had lapsed and not been renewed so no wine or beer; my husband ordered battered tilapia which came out with wet coleslaw all over the batter to make it soggy. He thought it tasted odd but hadn't eaten this fish before so finished it off unfortunately. Later in the night and for the next day he was unwell.
Breakfast was no better. They had run out of hot things when we arrived and we had to wait for replenishments. Only iced water was out on display and we had to ask for juice. Tables were not being cleared and. We had to move dirty plates ourselves before we could sit down.
We couldn't wait to leave
