“Cheap and Comfortable”
Reviewed 27 August 2012

Spent 2 nights at this location. It has good and bad points. The sevice and staff was great, location was nice, pillow top beds (queens) were very comfortable. The hotel is however a bargain for a reason. It is old, a little run down and in need of some TLC both inside and out. The breakfast was very limited and not worth the eating. The rooms were dark and the bathrooms outdated. The hotel had a great pet policy and was quiet and restful. For the price and location this is a great place to stay, but if you are looking for the ritz, you will have to pay for it in a place like Taos.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Our team of Associates appreciates your commendations and we share them with the team! Glad you found our memory foam mattress toppers comfortable. We erred the last time we painted in using darker trendy colors on the walls....that will be remedied next time around. Surprised the bathrooms didn't meet your standards as the floor tile, tubs, and surrounds were redone 4-5 years back. We've always tried to be one of the most reasonably priced downtown properties in Taos! See you soon.

The room layout and décor were good, but I had a lot of little quibbles: TV remote didn’t work, walls were a bit thin (or our neighbors were exceptionally noisy), we were missing a light bulb and the shower was pathetic. We were also disappointed in breakfast, which to be fair was only advertised as “continental” but the coffee was weak and the selection quite limited. That said, the location can't be beat, the price is right, and they do have a nice pool and a big, grassy courtyard which kids would enjoy.

TV remotes are one of a hoteliers worst enigmas. They grow legs, become de-programmed, etc. We'll review with housekeeping the importance of the details you mentioned in hopes of your next visit being closer to our objectives of meeting all your needs! Each team member appreciates Guest comments so a big thank you for taking the time to review us! See you next time you're in the neighborhood.

We just got back this weekend and Im sad to say in the morning I found large cockroaches in room running around inside the night stand next to the bed and in the TV stand.

The good about this Motel. It is located right on the main drag going into Taos. This puts you with in easy walking distance of Taos town square and most shopping and dining. I loved the location. The rooms were quiet. The Motel lobby is nicely decorated and the rooms look like they would be ok from the outside. It has a nice small swimming pool (unheated) but thats what I would expect. One of the prettiest huge court yards Its probably 100 yards of grassy park like setting with a kiva fire place and pine trees. Just gorgeous and very peaceful. Breakfast room was very big, Very good breakfast boiled eggs, oatmeal, cinnamon bread, coffee, tea The room we had was good size 2 double beds the beds were very comfortable. You can have A/C in room.

Now for the bad Room look like it was ok maybe just needed updating and very sparsely furnished with out dated furniture, Which is fine. After getting back from dinner in town. I noticed room smelled like dog urine and stale cigarette smoke. Although I dont know what the motel can do about this as they do have signs up about pets and no smoking. But they just need to invest in a good carpet steam cleaner. The toilet had (gross stains) left from previous guest but room was clean other than that. There were beer cans left from previous guest in niches by room. So maybe motel could spend more time cleaning. Sheets smelled very clean however my one of blankets was very worn on my daughters bed and during the night she came entangled in the torn silk. She was not just a little tangled it took me several minutes to free her in the morning. In my opinion if you had a younger child this could pose a very dangerous strangulation risk. (This was so bad I will now pay very close attention to worn blankets and sheets in hotels from now on). When we got up in the morning and were packing to leave after breakfast. I opened up the night stand drawer and found a large cockroach running around on the inside. I looked in the dresser that the TV sits on and found more and found little black dropping all over the inside of the dresser. So in my opinion Indian Hills does a ok job of cleaning room (where you can see) but not a good job.

So In my opinion if you stay here and travel with kids please check the beds for torn blankets and do not bring anything into the room keep your belonging & suitcases in your car.

This is such a shame because it really does have potential to be a nice place

Your comment about roaches is unusual as we have a regular pest control program and theyare not a common problem in Taos. We'll discuss your housekeeping suggestions with our staff. Comments both good and bad are a necessary part of a hotel helping it's staff provide the kind of accommodations Guests expect and seek. Thanks so much!

The website for this hotel is decieving. Amenities are lacking. There is no alarm clock, hair dryer or even a peephole in the door. The lobby and front of the hotel are nice. When you get to where you park it makes you think of a disreputable place. I feared for my car in the parking lot due to how isolated it was. I just didn't like this hotel and wouldn't reccomend it.

Sorry your experience wasn't as you'd expected. The telephone system provides the wake up call/alarm. Sorry if we didn't give you a map with some hotel instructions that might have helped. Peep holes are required when there is no window next to the door. 100% of our rooms have either a window or a peep hole (if no window). We have a video security camera system that records both parking lots and numerous other hotel areas. Surprised you rated the location poorly. The primary reason most folks choose Indain Hills Inn, Taos Plaza is due to our convenient downtown easy access to historic Taos Plaza location. Hope you'll give us a try again!

I stayed here for two nights to start a project in Taos. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The rate is excellent for the location. It is good they have resisted the temptation to charge the same as the competitors which results in helping the working folks.
Also, like other comments, the staff was friendly and very helpful. I find that a motel's cleanliness and high quality service can be a big factor in whether or not guests will return. I hope they have lots of repeat business.
It is awesome you posted a sign to all the smokers who feel privileged enough to smoke in the non-smoking rooms. More places need to do that.
Breakfast was plentiful and fresh, even though it was not open till 7:00; my guess is most of the guests probably are there for pleasure and sleep late or something. It was good food for a continental breakfast.
The only negative really is the gratuity envelope requesting it be taken to the front desk. Most guests who are going to tip are going to tip anyway regardless of the envelope. In this particular case the envelope might be doing more harm than good but I suppose you will need some sort of a market analysis to prove that one way or another.
Keep up the good work and consider my thoughts.

Stayed here in Sept '06 with my dad as part of our trip through New Mexico. We only stayed for one night as planned. The motel is easy to find as it is right off the main road through town. Check in was easy and simple. The desk clerk was receptive and informative. The lobby was nice and airy, but nothing spectacular other than the Southwest decor. The lobby also served as the breakfast room for the daily continental breakfast.

We got a room with 2 full size beds and though they weren't very comfy, they were good enough for our sleep. The bathroom was simple, but at least everything was working. There was a large dresser with a TV, a nightstand, and a table with chairs.

This place was close to everything and since parking was free, for the price we paid it was a good stay.

The rooms were dark with stains on the wall and ceiling. Could not tell if the bed sheets were clean or not (Since the room was too dark).

Staff was friendly.

Location was great.

However, the rooms were so bad that I would never, ever stay here again. And I would never suggest this place to a friend.
