2 Adults stayed at this Taos property Labor Day Weekend 2013. The hotel had one of the best ratings on Trip Advisor and we were also glad they had one of the best nightly rates available during this time.

After checkin with Boyd, who was energetic in hitting the check-in marks, we ended up in a room with a barely functioning A/C unit that looked old and a older toilet that drained slowly. We had a chat with Boyd, who took a look at the toilet and concluded there wasn't much to do about it, but since we checked in in the late afternoon and another room was available, he eventually offered us the opportunity to switch rooms, and we took it.

We were glad we did, as the room we moved into had a newer A/C unit and toilet, and everything functioned as expected. Knowing the hotel was booked for the night, we were concerned that those arriving later might get a room that didn't work for them, but also held as possible that Boyd could take another look at the toilet and that those guests would like a warmer room.

We also noted that the carpet seemed to be new as new carpet rolls of the same color were stored in the back hallway of the hotel, and that new refrigerators were in boxes at the front desk. Although I did not see these as amenities before arrival at the hotel, the rooms come with a small fridge and microwave--and in the room across the hall from us, we noted it had new versions of these along with a newer a/c unit and carpet. So, until they complete their upgrade, you might ask for a room with newer amenities upon check in. The new microwaves and fridges are white, and the old ones are black.

One other notable issue that we are not clear got resolved is that the back door (entrance to room hallways from the east end of the parking lot) did not lock at night, allowing anyone access into the hotel. The main front door and this back door have key-card locks on them, but after making a quick run to Walmart nearby, I returned to discover someone trying to get in the front door without a key and ended up at the back door where a simple turn of the handle without key or swipe permitted entry. I went to the front desk, but no one was present, and after getting back to the room, dialed 0 and got Danny to whom I reported the issue. He said the door is supposed to lock after 9PM and he would take a look at it. We did not go see how it turned out or get a call back from Danny; and the next morning I noted the door functioned the same way it did as the night before. Fortunately there are locks on the doors to the hotel rooms that provided adequate security for us that night. Danny, I learned then next morning as well, is the general manager.

Notable highlights are the rate (value), the amenities, and the softness of the towels. Issues were dysfunction in the toilet, a/c, security door at the back of the hotel, and in hotel staff savvy and follow-through. Rooms were relatively quiet inside, but I discovered that what goes on inside the room easily could be heard in the hallway; so if privacy matters to you, keep in mind anyone in the hallway can hear your conversations or what ever you do in the room.

Would recommend if issues have been resolved. There is no swimming pool that I saw or restaurant, but Toas has many good eateries from which to chose within driving distance.

Room Tip: The hotel is laid out in a wing from east-to-west. If you want a cooler room, ask for one on the nor...

I stayed here Aug 18th and Boyd at the front desk was very helpful. I was on a road trip with a budget and called to get price info and got a friendly voice (that helps when you're tired). The price was reasonable and checking other reviews decided to book it. When I arrived I found the room clean and comfortable. Don't expect luxury, just basic, clean accommodations here. When I'm on a road trip to see the sights I don't need the "extras" I just need basic comfort and a "CLEAN" place to sleep. Hope this helps.

I chose the Taos Super 8 based on price and reviews, and I wasn't disappointed with my decision. The rooms were clean, had a refrigerator and microwave, and met our needs. The staff was very friendly and helpful, from the time I called in a reservation, through the check-in/out process, and making local restaurant recommendations. There was free breakfast in the morning but we didn't eat there (we had seen a cute little breakfast place in town we wanted to try, so opted to go there instead.) The only thing that needed attention was the air conditioner unit. It was a little noisy and was a little tricky to get the temperature setting right for us. A tune-up would probably take care of it. Overall, we were pleased and would come back again.

Good value for basic motel in an otherwise high-priced city. Located south of town in commercial sprawl (not within a walk of historic center). Lots of food, shopping and services nearby. Enough parking for trailers. Reasonably quiet, some traffic noise. Clean. Bed comfortable but room is small. Refrigerator & microwave, but could not plug both in at the same time. OK for short stays if you want to save money and be fairly comfortable.
