“Other than the billing oddities, we were pleased”
Reviewed 27 July 2013

Room 310 - two doubles

GOOD:
- fair price
- very large room
- room was clean
- close to everything
- breakfast room huge w/plenty of seating
- better than average free breakfast
- cozy layout
- rustic style in room

BAD:
- ALL of the parking lot outdoor lighting near our room was out. It was dangerously dark.
- Check-in took forever as clerk had made some mistakes (which is probably source of billing problems noted below)

THE UGLY
- Billing issues. Booked through Expedia but when I checked out the bill was $80 more than should have been (not sure why I was billed at all when it was prepaid). There was also a $20 authorization they insist on charging at check-in for "incidentals" which is very unusual. Desk clerk said fixed but I called credit card company to be sure and they said the higher charge & $20 was showing up anyway. Took about 20 minutes of the morning to get this was fixed. As far as I know, it was corrected. Hopefully this situation as an anomaly.

BOTTOM LINE
- Would stay again.

Room Tip: It may not hurt to check out face to face and double check your bill. If anything seems fishy, call...

My husband and I enjoy a trip to Taos, NM a couple of times a year. We usually stay at the Don Fernando for it's proximity to the plaza and resort like feel. It had been 18 months since our last stay, and the place has deteriorated badly. There is no hot tub and no bar. The wallpaper in our room was peeling off the wall. The vanities are Formica and cracked. Though we were in a "non-smoking" room, there was a strong odor of cigarette smoke and burn marks on the vanity in the bath room. The towels were thin, the TV's old and there was no Internet.
The hotel in its heyday was a resort: Tennis courts, elegant pool, great venue for hosting weddings or reunions. I was embarrassed at the deterioration of this resort. We will definitely look for an alternative venue for our next trip to Taos.

I want to personally thank you for your recent stay, and apologize for any inconvenience.
We have been working very hard on the outside of our buildings, and our guest rooms. As you stated we no longer have our hot tub or lounge, but we do have a great indoor swimming pool, and our high speed internet is complimentary. We researched your comment regarding the internet service and found that we did have days during your stay when our provider was experiencing technical difficulties, and our guests could not get service, we do apologize for this temporary failure. We will continue to work with our Maintenance & Housekeeping staff regarding your review.
Thank you for your honesty and we will continue to strive for better customer service, and provide a quality product for you. We invite you to visit us again, and allow us to regain your loyalty.

I had made reservations online, based on how nice it looked and some of the previous reviews. I had booked a King with micro and a refrigerator and smoking. Rate for 5 days. Once we got there the was not able to make our request at first, but they final after raising the we had a room. My husband and I was so disappointed, the place was run down, old and dirty outside. the food was cold. The staff members were rude. The bed itself was a nightmares, dirty sheets, carpet dirty. It seemed that the Owner and managers really didn't care. We had to cancel our reservation and go to the Hampton Inn, for the rest of our trip which turned out to be great and was welcome once we walked into the lobby, nothing like the previous named Hotel.

Mary Petrous

Room Tip: Never book at this Hotel. Staff member are rude. Place it dirty.

Ms. Petrous,
I want to personally thank you for your recent stay, and apologize for any inconvenience you encountered during your stay.
We have been working very hard on the outside of our buildings, and our guest rooms. Although our property shows its age, we were surprised to hear that our staff did not meet your expectations, as we seem to rank very well in guest responses in this area. We want to thank you for your honesty and we will continue to strive for better customer service, and provide a quality product for you. We invite you to visit us again, and allow us to regain your loyalty.

We've stayed here as a band three times now, and these guys always are always courteous and ever-ready to let us check-in at all hours (which is necessary when you play late). We've always found the rooms impeccably clean and everything in order...the only complaint we had is that the continental breakfast has gone downhill since last we stayed (especially eggs and sausage patties...also, this time the oranges were from China!)...We will most likely be staying there again as the staff has always gone the extra mile to meet our needs

My sister and I stayed here one night while on a trip through northern New Mexico. They advertised that the bar was open, but it wasn't. The rooms were okay, nothing great. Breakfast was the average continental meal. Probably would not stay here again.

Raenell S.,
Thank you for your recent stay, and your review on TripAdvisor. I apologize for any advertising that stated that the lounge was open, as our lounge has been closed for over a year now. If there is advertising that our lounge is open, we have been checking all outlets, and will correct each one.
The planned renovation of the lounge is still in progress, and we hope you will stay with us when we re-open. Thanks again.

This place is awesome. Rooms are clean and secluded. Pool is lovely, (however, there was no spa), grounds are well tended, conveniently located, staff extremely friendly. However, whatever they are cooking those eggs in has got to go!

Room Tip: I don't think there's a bad room in the whole place!

Hole in the bathroom door, Hair Dryer did not work, Bed mattress are in bad shape. Front desk staff was help full as much as possible. Everything is very old and outdated. I believe they could have offered an additional discount.
