Hotel Don Fernando de Taos

Adobe style hotel, two storey, layed out around nice gardens.

Good sized rooms but tiny bathroom, clean and comfortable.

The only hotel on this tour which did not have FREE internet in the lobby. Lobby and bar area very quiet in the evenings and did not invite you to stay.

Across the road from Walmart and Applebees and about fifteen minutes walk to other eateries and a large Albertsons grocery store.

Acceptable tourist hotel for a one night stay....

I was staying one night in Taos with a friend, and needed a reasonably priced, comfortable room. This is it!! It's a remodeled older hotel with lots of grass and very nice landscaping...very spacious, inside and out.... rooms are oversized......extra-large, very clean pool... it's out of town about one mile, so there is almost no traffic noise, such as the traffic noise you experience in town and around the plaza...you do need to drive to the plaza but you probably have a car anyway...the lobby is very nice, there is free wifi if you request it when you make your reservation and the staff is very helpful and courteous...we did not eat or drink at the hotel, because there was a huge wedding party happening the night we stayed there....definitely would stay again and recommend to family and friends...

I had the misfortune of (trying to) eat at the buffet and wish to warn all others that sardines out of a can would be a much more satisfying alternative. Unless you've been interred on Devil's Island eating a bread and water diet for several years, the appearance and choice at the buffet is appalling. Soggy pale canned vegetables, wilted lettuce, some misc. salad items that looked like joke food and a pile of greasy fried fish will leave you literally without anything to eat least you want to do battle with some ghoulish gastric malady.

I was in town on business and thought from the website this might be a good place to stay. Boy was I wrong. There was a wasp nest in the room with live wasp on it! The stairs were broken and moved when you stepped on them had to hold on to the rail so you would not fall. The window had a crack and the room smelled very bad. When I went to front desk and told them about the problems with the room the front desk clerk seemed annoyed to be bothered but did give me another room. This room was insect free but also had a cracked window and did not smell very good either. I did not eat on property I was not impressed by the cleanliness of the place and did not want to take any chances. Don't walk, run away from this hotel there are better places to stay in town for the same price.

I booked this hotel through Expedia for a ski weekend at Angel Fire. It was acceptable but below average for the price and especially compared to how the hotel describes itself on its web site. It advertises "immaculate rooms" and "award winning service", neither of which described my experience.
I will admit the room was clean but it was rundown and definitely in need of an upgrade. Peeling paint and wallpaper, cracked tiles in bathroom, old mattresses, worn furniture, etc.
The hot tub was not in operation which was not mentioned on their web site. The pool was available but not the hot tub. Based on this experience and other reviews, if availability of a hot tub in any way influences your decision on a hotel, I highly recommend calling this place before booking to check on the status of the hot tub.
Overall: Was it a bad experience-NO. Was it a good experience-NO. Is it acceptable accommodations if you just need a place to spend the night-YES. Would I stay here again-NO.

The experience was on par with a Motel 6, Econo Lodge, Comfort Inn, etc.; not of a hotel that advertises excellence.

Angel Fire was only 30 minutes away which was a plus.

We saw the hotel on Expedia and booked on their site because it was slightly cheaper. Wonderful time in Taos seeing the sites and experienced bad service in a multitude of restaurants. Not sure why other reviewers had issues with the wireless since we were able to get in the bar at night. Room was spacious and the pool was beautiful so I thought I should let people know. Why are people so crabby anymore! Your in Taos, what did you expect?

This hotel needs some help. We paid $80 a night on two weeknights. We were driving cross-country on a road trip so the "okay to cancel night-of" policy worked well for us and the hotel is pet-friendly ($25 flat fee). Thin, cheap, white, small bath towels and cracked windows (so we couldn't open them, plus we were on the first floor! - might be scary for a single traveler, esp female). Lobby is nice, but the rooms are bit dingy looking, but seemed clean enough. We stayed in building 2, where the wireless internet signal is weak and slow. Staff/service is poor. The hotel offers a hot breakfast and gives you a ticket that says "good for one menu item" which made us think it was a sit-down, restaurant-menu breakfast, but when we got there in the morning, there was a sign that said "please wait to be seated" and a man in front of us in line. After a few minutes, a worker walked by and told us to seat ourselves and turns out it was a serve-yourself buffet hot breakfast. Ten minutes after sitting down with our food, a worker finally asks us if we've been served [drinks] yet and we said no and ordered orange juice. She gave it to us without a word and barely managed to return to our table once to check on us. We didn't even bother with breakfast the second morning. The atrium pool looked nice, although we didn't use it.
