“Beautiful B&B”
Reviewed 3 August 2014 via mobile

My family rented the two guest houses and one of the suites in the main house. The guest houses were nice and included a small kitchen, bathroom, and propane grill outside. The suite at the main house included a bathroom and breakfast served every morning. The owners were very nice and went out of there way to make everyone comfortable. The view of the mountains is gorgeous and they have quite a few places on the property to sit and enjoy it including a pond in the back yard. It's also very close to the Cowles fishing ponds river. Make sure to bring groceries with you the drive down to get groceries is a long way down the mountain. Also be warned that there is no cell service but they do provide WIFI which is a life saver.

This is as far as you can go up the Pecos River Valley and sleep without a tent or camper. We spent three nights here in early September looking to get away from the Texas heat and just relax. This certainly fit the bill. Steve and Patty are wonderful hosts. We explored the valley and mountain roads during the day and relaxed & read outside in the afternoons. Pack groceries, it is quite a hike to the store once you arrive and if you are like us we were not in any hurry to get back to civilization. There is a micro wave and an outdoor propane grill to cook on. Also nice was a TV in the common area and WiFi for our iPads (forget about using your cell phone up here - it really is the gateway to the wilderness).

Room Tip: If you stay in one of the two suites you need to be aware that you share a common living area (TV, d...

The Wilderness Gateway is a B&B at the end of the road, or nearly so, into the Pecos Wilderness east of Santa Fe, NM. It contains a main house with a few rooms and then a separate building, a sort of two unit cabin, away from the main house, that has two large suites, each with a mini kitchen, its own bathroom, and parking on the grass. We stayed in the latter, and so "cooked" for ourselves. The location is fantastic for people who are serious mountain hikers but don't want to backpack overnight. Several trailheads are within half a mile of the B&B, so you can walk straight to the trailhead w/o driving. A short drive gets you to even more trailheads into the Pecos Wilderness. The bed was very comfortable, and we slept soundly after our long hikes up and down the mountains. The owners were pleasant and helpful about the area, and we had both deer and hummingbirds roaming around outside our cabin. Wifi was limited--we had to walk 30 yards or so from the cabin to outside the main house to get good reception--but that was a minor inconvenience, particularly given the remote location.

Room Tip: If you opt for the cabin, ask for the south room. It's more private and has better views. Most i...
