I have been visiting Blackstone annually for several years. The draw is the in-room mineral bath and serene quiet environment. I like having a little kitchenette, too. Nothing has been changed or updated in the several years that I have been staying there. Some signs of wear and tear are beginning to show. Check-in was by some young person who seemed to be the only one around that afternoon. My credit card was charged in full for all nights reserved at the time of check-in. This is problematic if you need to check out earlier than anticipated. I was hoping to unwind for two nights getting lots of soaking time in coupled with catching up with some work at the office online. Unfortunately, the internet speed was way too slow and the wireless signal not strong enough for all of my devices to detect. My Macbook and iPad got a signal but my iPhone 5 could not. I was in the Golden Girls room. I am writing this review from a hotel room in Las Vegas where I am enjoying download speeds of 16 mbps. The speed at Blackstone was less than 300 kbps at best, rendering connectivity basically useless except for light browsing and checking of e-mails. I couldn't download a larger file I needed from work. Streaming from Netfilix or other media sources was impossible. If I return, it will be for just one night and I'll be sure to take care of my connectivity needs beforehand. At least there are a lot of channels to watch on the DirecTV satellite TV.
Kitchenware is minimalist. A couple of days worth of coffee is provided along with a decent size coffeemaker. Towel racks are nonexistent and the towel supply is just adequate for a short stay. There were no hangers in the small piece of furniture provided for a 'closet". The bed and pillows were a little soft for my taste.
I like the rehab that the owners did on this old motor hotel. The appeal has diminished to some degree for the reasons stated above and, despite having to leave a night early due to the lack of a suitable internet connection, I was charged over $150 for the second reserved night that I did not actually stay there despite my direct appeal to the owner. That was just an unpleasant end note to this year's disappointing visit.
