“Perfect Route 66 Stop!”
Reviewed 25 July 2014

We spent one night at the Blue Swallow as part of a Route 66 trip to the Grand Canyon. The owner's son, Cameron, and his wife, Jessica, were the proprietors for the week. They greeted us enthusiastically as soon as we entered the front door and made us feel at home. I even spotted the "Mrs. Beasley" doll in a rocking chair which brought back great childhood memories! Cameron walked us to our rooms - the Family Suite and Room 14 - and showed us the garage we could use for parking. He said they had just purchased new mattresses for all the rooms, and the bed was the most comfortable I slept on during our trip. It was fun to take a step back in time and imagine we were living life as it was 50-70 years ago. At night, the neon lights on the property were turned on, and guests sat in the colorful, metal chairs in front of our rooms. We talked and watched the traffic go by. It was refreshing. The homemade blueberry-chocolate chip muffins and coffee served for breakfast were great, and we found several prints in the gift shop area. Cameron emailed us about a print we were looking for that he found in the back room and offered to ship it to us. We were able to stop by on the trip back home, though, and pick it up. Still, we were impressed by the follow up and attention to detail. This is a great motel, and we would stay here again!

When I originally booked our room I was sad that we would be in Tucumcari on a Sunday, when many businesses are closed (as they should be!). When we got to our room (the family suite), we realized we really didn't want to leave the Blue Swallow anyway! The rooms were extremely clean and well put together! My children and husband (who are not as into the past as I am) were pleasantly surprised. We all 5 rated it the best place we stopped for the night! We sat outside and enjoyed the company of other guests, and the children made fast friends with some other road-trippers and played dodge ball in the parking lot before giving in to the modern era and playing their computer games online. They assure me the internet connection was REALLY good! My daughter loved Bessie and Obie, the Swallow "greeters and pets". Kevin and Nancy are wonderful hosts and we hope to make our way back to New Mexico and the Blue Swallow soon!

Room Tip: If you are traveling with kids I highly recommend the family suite if it is available. My children...

This place is exactly like I thought it would be. We stayed here on our route 66 trip and are very thankful that we did. The actual owners of the hotel were on vacation but their son was there and he was very friendly. The rooms are clean and cute with everything you need. Hanging out in front of your room with other travelers is so cool. We chatted with folks for hours while enjoying the view of the spectacular neon sign sipping on adult beverages. Recommended

Very nice motel on Route 66! My boyfriend and I were spending a couple days driving along Route 66 and I had made a reservation to stay here. We loved the quaintness of the motel and it's history! The owners were very nice and gave us a tour of all their old cars, which my boyfriend adores! The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Would definitely recommend for a trip back to Route 66 glory days!

We stayed at the Blue Swallow Inn on July 18, 2014, and what a wonderful experience it was! Cameron and Jessica couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating! First of all, our room, No. 10, was wonderful - everything was immaculate and brought back memories of travels with my parents on Rte. 66. The chenille bedspreads, the furniture, the rotary phone, etc. were perfect! Also, Cameron kept the gift shop open late for us so we could shop, and shop we did! Wonderful remembrances of times past were plentiful! If you are ever in Tucumcari, or anywhere near, the Blue Swallow Inn is a treasure that shouldn't be missed!

Very sweet motel! Makes you feel like you've gone back in time. The rooms were clean and classically decorated and we loved sitting outside on are little porch relaxing. This hotel has been renovated but be aware it is still very quaint. The rooms are small and cozy, and the bathroom is 1930s true with updated hardware. I loved the antique door handles, old windows, and basic architecture but it won't be right for everyone. This is not a luxury hotel or reliable old Hampton Inn. But if you want the experience of stepping back in time, I couldn't recommend a more charming place!

Room Tip: The family suite connects room 7 and 8 if you want separate bedrooms. You can also request a room w...

Great stay in a quaint little town. Nothing fancy but clean and welcoming. Ate at Del's Diner which was very good as well. Would definitely recommend! Owners are great people and fun to visit with. Beds were comfortable. The only negative was low shower pressure but all in all, great place to stay.
