A perfect stop along 66. Great atmosphere and charming hosts. A great break from chain lodging. The town has a couple of good restaurants which were recommended by the owner and proved to exactly as described. This was a pleasant surprise during a fifteen day road trip.

We stayed at the Blue Swallow last week during our drive from the Grand Canyon to Dallas. This place is just wonderful- the folks are so helpful and accommodating and the place itself has wonderful throw back charm. My only complaint was we had to choose between an open window with a less than secure screen or a very noisy air conditioner. We opted to do neither and it was a less than comfortable night's sleep as the evening was very warm. If the "refrigerated air" they advertise (love it!) had been less noisy the place would have been perfect!

Great experience, wonderful hosts. 8 Harley riders had the best night of 12 nights on Route 66. I'll bring my next group back here. Rooms are clean and the garages are unique. Our host drove one of our riders to the grocery store in an antique car

This hotel was fun and well taken care of and the owners Kevin and Nancy went well above the normal customer service. We changed from the original reservation as Nancy was showing us around and did it most graciously. The room was comfortable and very clean, more than many modern hotels where we have stayed. They even had a garage for each room however, today's car (ours) could not fit in. They pointed us to a restaurant in town that also had the same 40"s and 50's theme and the food was also excellent. If you are looking for a great night's sleep, in a renovated 40's hotel you will not be disappointed in the Blue Swallow. It is located right on the old Rt. 66. maryann and john iowa

Room Tip: rooms in the middle are the quietest

What a fabulous place! We stayed for one night while travelling Route 66. For anyone else doing it this is a stop not to be missed. We were a party of seven staying in two rooms each with two doubles. The rooms were fab, the owners had worked very hard to keep the original features of the rooms. The decor was original and well looked after. Beds were comfortable and we had a good nights sleep.
The couple running the place were excellent. Cameron and Jessica were very welcoming and went that extra mile. They lit a camp fire in the evening and introduced us Brits to our first taste of s'mores.
The gift shop has plenty of original souvenirs for anyone like us who brought home an extra suitcase full.
A must stop for travellers of 66, simply excellent.

What an amazing hotel, the owners were delightful they couldn't do enough for us from start to finish! We only stayed one night on our tour but we were treated like family. The rooms were of the original decor and it was great to sit outside the room with a beer and enjoy the most spectacular neon sign ever! A must for all Route 66 enthusiasts. The owners were so knowledgable, recommended a great restaurant and arranged for a courtesy car to pick us up, just what you need after a long day on the route. Great location on the Main Street surrounded by 66 memorabilia. A fantastic hotel and the owners are nicest people you could ever wish to meet. I would highly recommend.

Room Tip: All rooms were great but rooms 1 and 2 have great views of the neon signs at night.

The Blue Swallow Motel is gem on Route 66 and is definitely worth the stop, even if it means going out of your way to get there. You will feel as if you stepped back in time. Everything—from the room decor, neon lights, and vintage car out front—adds to the atmosphere of a motor court from the 1940s or 1950s. Even the check-in card and room keys recall that bygone era. The innkeepers are attentive, and their dogs are super friendly. A word of advice: be sure to make a reservation far in advance. The "vacancy" sign was not lit the night my wife and I stayed (and it was a Monday night), and we saw several disappointed travelers turned away. A word of caution: because the Blue Swallow is a historic site, you won't find many modern conveniences (other than free wi-fi), but you will find a clean and comfortable room and a unique travel experience, including a hot cup of coffee and a home-baked muffin waiting for you in the lobby the next morning. Our one-night stay in "Tucumcari Tonight" was definitely a highlight of our summer travels.
