We spent one night at Mvubu on our way to Cape Vidal. We were astonished by the quality of the care we experienced in this wonderful lodge. Our host was the friendly Donovan Gloy, but we also met owner and legend Karel Landman. The acommodation was perfect and the cuisine excellent at very affordable prices. The history of the place is fascinating. The Landmans bought the place a mere 40 years ago and transformed it from a barren and over grazed semi-desert to the lush and beautiful paradise and game sanctuary it currently is. The lodge offers tiger fishing, game hunting, game viewing, birding, a fully equipped spa and wonderful views right from the doorstep of your air conditioned room. Mvubu is easily accessible and is an ideal first stop for a trip to Zululand. It comes at just the right time after your journey from Gauteng.

Room Tip: Number 2 is the one.

We started our trip in South Africa with a three nights stay there..it was just amazing! The staff was very attentive to our needs and proposed us many activities. We enjoyed a cosy dinner just for the two of us around the camp fire! This was amazing and Sim one of the most valuable team members made it an exceptional and memorable moment. He also took the time to explain us all he knew about animals, plants, etc of the reserve during a game drive.
Thanks to him and all other team members we will always recommend this place and sincerely wish we will go back.

Room Tip: We got the honeymoon suite which had a beautiful terrass with view on the river

My partner and I stayed at Mvubu Lodge on 4 and 5 October. We stayed in a thatched lodge with double bed and hip bath overlooking the river. The accommodation was excellent and very romantic. We enjoyed a swim in the small swimming pool before sitting an excellent evening meal. The food was fantastic throughout our stay and the staff couldn't have done more to make our stay memorable.

The following day we had a very relaxing boat cruise down the river where we saw many different species of mammals, reptiles birds and fish. Most notably a group of elephants on the banks of the river, giraffe, hippo and fish eagles.

In the afternoon we did a game drive where we met buffalo, giraffe, White rhino and an elephant at close quarters.

We were sorry to leave at the end of our stay, but we will remember our stay for many years to come.

I was on a close to six week business trip in Cape Town, and during this stay me and another work colleague had a week of vacation, a week spent on two different game lodges. Our stay in Mvubu River Lodge was simply brilliant. We had cabin 9 and 10 (I think it was). The cabins was filled with all the amenities one need, comfortable bed, toilet, bathtub and fridge on the poorch for storing cold beers and a bottle of the quite awesome Leaping Leopard Lookout rose wine.

The view at Mvubu was spectacular, and gave many opportunities to snap a few good pictures of the wildlife either living by the river or going down to the river to drink water. And of course not to forget the Nyalas that walked into the camp and greeted us upon arrival.

One of the tings I really liked about Mvubu, besides hosts Donovan and his brother Barry that was doing everything humanly possible to make ones stay as perfect as possible is that you get to know the other visitors. Every night they would gather all of us around a large fire for dinner. This way we got to talk to the other visitors and share wildlife stories which was very nice. Since I'm already on the food topic, the breakfast was OK, lunch OK, dinner was spectacular! As Donovan said, I will get offended if you don't go for seconds, during my four dinners there I went for seconds every time.

Mvubu has four of the big fives and for me it was the perfect game park, with one exception, they don't have any lions there. Still we got some close up encounters with Rhinos, Elephants, Gnus, Giraffes, Zebras, Buffalo's and many other animals. As a whole I would rate this game park over the other we visited by a mile. This place has the view, the perfect hosts and if one desire a spa.

If I ever visit KwaZulu natal I would definitely have a few nights in Mvubu again!

Stayed here with friends for a weekend in April. Other lodges in this area were too expensive for us & we got a good last minute deal here to make it even more worthwhile! The chalets have lovely views over the river and game reserve, and we could see hippos, many different birds, antelope & even giraffe from the lounge area (admittedly with binoculars!). We had very good food around the boma and the rooms were very comfortable with lovely bed linen. We were tempted by the spa but didn't use it in the end, but we did go on a sundowner boat cruise where we saw antelope & hippos & stopped for drinks whilst watching a white rhino grazing on the bank, which was lovely. 2 nights accommodation with bed, breakfast, drinks, dinner and boat cruise cost us £125 each, which I thought was a pretty good deal for such a lovely place! Very relaxing.

Stayed over for three nights after spending a week in the Kruger national park and what a lovely surprise it turned out to be. Lovely cottages with wonderful views. Sipihwe was an excellent guide and even thought the animals were scarce, the stories were entertaining and seeing a few of the big five plus the wonderful food added to a wonderful stay. The boat cruise is worth going on as the bird life is prolific. Lorraine is a perfect hostess! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his pedicure and back massage and our Dutch friends recommend both as well!

Our fourth visit to the game reserve and excellent service as usual. We could have stayed longer but were on our way to the coast. A welcome break on the long journey. Gerda and Lorraine are great hostesses. Our room was spacious with air-con and a beautiful view of the river. Dinner and breakfast very good.
