Certificate of Excellence

The place is amazing, personnel provides service excellent, chefs cook exceptional food. The rangers and truckers are very knowledgeable, according to their knowledge the ranger is qualified to be a professor in any university in the world.

Our 3 night stay in Tswalu Motse was the last and best of the 3 Safari Camps we visited during our trip to Africa. The 220,000 acre game reserve is owned by the Oppenheimer Family and they obviously know how to make a luxury facility. There are 6 identical chalets on this property with a beautiful bedroom, large entrance way, dressing/desk area and large bathroom with both a tub and shower. There is also a large furnished deck area with an outside shower. The deck overlooks a waterhole with lots of animal activity. The bedroom has a wood burning fireplace at the foot of the bed and the staff made sure it was started each evening and provided lots of wood to keep it going as long as you wanted. The bed also had an electric blanket that was wonderful during the chilly evenings and allowed the heater to be kept on low for a restful sleep. The main lodge had several wood burning fireplaces, a dining area overlooking the expansive deck with a view of the water hole. There were 2 pools but because of the cool temperatures we did not make use of them. Breakfast and 2 of the 3 dinners were served in the dining room and lunch on the deck. One dinner was served outside in a special area with large fires burning for ambiance and heat. The food was excellent with many choices and a readiness to adjust to any special request we had. The wine selection was excellent with many great selections available. They also have other alcohol drinks although we only drank wine. We had our own Range Rover with an expert guide and tracker and were able to schedule 2 game drives a day at a convenient time and when the cool temperatures were not too extreme. Game viewing was different from our experiences at Chobe National Park and Londolozi iin Sabi Sands. We saw different animals at Tswalu Motse including a very amusing and interesting Meerkats Colony that kept us entertained for hours. We also watched an encounter between 3 female lions and 9 cubs as they tried to get to a pack of wild dogs that were in a special enclosure in preparation for release into the wild. Tswalu Motse is a different concept than the other camps we visited with longer range rover trips and beautiful scenery as you drove over hills onto expansive plains and beautiful sunsets. We also participated in the tracking of lions, a black rhino and other animals. There were no elephants sighted and while there were many animals, not as many as in Chobe and Sabi Sands where we saw hundreds of elephants and other animals. Tswalu Motse is a true wildlife reserve with the animals in a true natural setting. The guide, tracker, management and staff went out of there way to provide any service we needed and were extremely friendly. Horseback game drives are also available but we did not do that. There was free internet access and a computer available for use. Private air was provided to and from Tswalu Motse and the executive jet we took from the camp to Johannesburg for our flight home was a classy way to end our trip. We highly recommend Tswalu Motse is a unique and luxury way to have the true African experience.

Room Tip: All rooms are comparable and close to the main building with views of the water hole to see animal a...

Just returned from a week in Tswalu with our 4 young children, and it was the most amazing experience for all of us. We were a bit worried at first on how they would all fare, but even our youngest child, who is 2, enjoyed it immensely and could point out all the different kinds of animals by the end! Aside from it being a magical place, the staff were just wonderful (Stephane, Bron, Tahmi and Joe) and made every effort to make our family feel at home and learn about the environment and wildlife. Our ranger/guide Nicole and tracker, Jacob were an incredible team, always aware of what would work for the kids and every single drive found us lions, leopards, rhino, meerkats...whatever we set out to see for the day! The food of Chef Justin was the best we've had in South Africa, and the boma evenings were just so special. We took two suites at the Motse, the family suite for the kids and nanny, and a regular suite for us, and it was a real treat to stay in "traditional" yet extremely comfortable rooms. It was chilly, so the fireplace was lovely and cozy in the evenings. For a family with kids, it was especially nice how everything was included in the price, from all the meals, mini-bar to laundry (the Kalahari can get you very dusty!)- and the kids could have anything cooked for them anytime. The spa was also excellent, and we loved the little shop, which had a charming "honesty" book where you just wrote whatever you took. What they are doing here to in terms of conservation is impressive, as is the Tswalu village, where our children spent a very happy morning at the preschool playing with the local students. We'd highly recommend the sleep out at Malori, which my husband and 11-year-old did, it was unforgettable. They set up a wonderful dinner for all of us there at sunset, and even helped the children roast marshmallows by the fire!
We were all sad to leave this enchanting place, and look forward to returning in the very near future!

Our company celebrated its 10 anniversary at Tswalu. We booked The Motse and Tarkuni out. The entire experience was absolutely stunning. The staff and management accomodated our big group in every way and nobody felt left out or short changed in the experience. The rangers and guides went out of their way to show us everything and their enthusiasm and knowledge of the area was fantastic. The food was excellent. I am truly heartened to witness the conservation efforts of the Oppenheimer family and all their staff in the Kalahari. To visit Tswalu once in one's life time is truly a priviledge and a blessing. Thank you to all at Tswalu for making our weekend truly memorable.

We spent 4 nights at 'The Motse' - Tswalu Kalahari Game Reserve.
We are well travelled through Africa - Malawi, Botswana, Zambia and Namibia - only to discover that Tswalu Kalahari in my own country, is for beyond all the other places.
We were spoiled from the beginning to the end. The food was absolute fantastic - we love the oxtail and pap, thanks to the chef!!!!
Accommodation were out of this world and the staff even better.
Our guide (Richarde) and tracker (Jackson) were very knowledgable - thanks for taking us to the pride of lions, killing and eating a warthog - it was a lifetime experience.
Highly recommended!!

I want to thank the Oppenheimer family for allowing my wife and I, and others, to experience their vision of conservation in the South African Kalahari region. They are sustaining an ecosystem that may have been lost if they had not taken up the cause. As you can see by other reviews, this is a wonderful place and we concur. The accomodations are over the top, staff is top drawer, and the reserve is full of wildlife. The lodge is also very concerned about the well being of their staff. They run a regional health clinic that is available to the local community as well as staff. The Oppenheimer's also have a medical evacuation helicopter on standby. We have been to many camps in Botswana, and South Africa, and this is one not to be missed. I especially want to thank Warren, our guide, BD our tracker, Wendy, Ruth, Lebo, Joe, Norbert, and basically all the behind the scene players who created an unforgetable experience. There is absolutely no way you will be disappointed by a trip to this first class camp.

Room Tip: There is not a bad room!

Beautiful artistically designed lodges and exceptionally comfortable rooms, complemented with a warm, attentive and welcoming staff. The uniqueness of the locale and the rejuvenation of the land and wildlife lends a mystical air. One night we witnessed a Kalahari thunderstorm the specter of which left us in awe.
