We were simply blown away by our recent three night stay at Ulusaba Safari Lodge.

The game viewing is spectacular- the ranger and tracker were extremely experienced (rangers are required to have three years experience prior to joining Ulusaba)and have a great respect for the animals.

The service was warm, friendly and attentive. The atmospere is luxury, but relaxed. They go out of their way to create a feeling that you are part of something special through extra touches like the african choir and boma mentioned in previous posts.

The food and wine were terrific! Each room even has a mini-bar stocked with champagne and south african wines.

It does not get any better than this. Our stay at Ulusaba was really an experience of a lifetime!

If chosing between Rock and Safari lodge, both are beautiful but I would lean towards Safari for two reasons- Rock Lodge seems a bit further away from the action and allows children of any age so may be a better choice for families than for couples.

We ended our honeymoon with three nights at Ulusaba's Safari lodge. There is literally nothing we could fault with the place. The rooms, decks, bar, dining room and pool were beautiful and immaculately looked after. The view of the bush and passing game was amazing! All of the staff greet you by name, take the time to get to know yours and chat to you and literally nothing is too much trouble. The game drives are exhilarating and fascinating - the trackers and rangers really know their stuff. They treat the animals with respect and in return the animals seem happy to be observed from close quarters. But it's more than all of that: Ulusaba really is good for the soul, the ladies who work there have formed a choir to sing for the guests and I simply can't get the wonderful music out of my head. Go, soon - it's magical.

While Ulusaba is not cheap, this is the best splurge for a trip you will never forget. The sunken clawfoot bathtubs, stone showers, private decks, small but pretty swimming pool and gym, gourmet food and open bar, excellent rangers that take you on 2 safari drives a day, and attentive service by the friendly staff make this one of the best places we've stayed at. The Rock Lodge has wonderful views of the bush and has several gorgeous suites. The Safari lodge down below is interesting because you feel closer to the animals (an elephant walked right past our own balcony!) This lodge is owned by Richard Branson and some of its guests include Salma Hayek and Will Smith - if you want to feel like a star, this is the right place!
