Ulusaba was the highlight of our 10 day trip to South Africa. From the moment we were greeted by our Ranger Phil and Tracker David at the runway until the day they accompanied us onto our departure plane, we were treated like family. You spend a significant amount of each day with your Ranger and Tracker, on the game drives, at Breakfast, and evening cocktails, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time spent with Phil and David. Both were personable and incredibly knowledgeable about the animals and surroundings. In addition to providing us with an exceptional game viewing experience, where we saw the big 5 in our first day, they were also able to point out a plethora of bird species, details of termite colonies, and other smaller animals such as mongoose and the bush babies. Their ability to locate animals while flying past in the jeeps was impressive. One night David spotted a chameleon on a leaf in the pitch dark. Phil’s driving skills and navigation of the rough terrain in order to get us as close as possible to the animals was incredible. His knowledge of Nikon cameras also proved invaluable as he was able to advise on camera settings and knew just where to park to get the perfect shot.

Ulusaba has a laid back atmosphere that still manages to provide a 5 star service experience without the pretentiousness. We had the opportunity to stay at both Rock Lodge and Safari Lodge, which provided the best of both worlds. We enjoyed the spectacular view from Rock Lodge and the intimacy of animal viewing outside our room at Safari Lodge. In both locations, we were provided with more food that we could have ever needed, and each time were impressed with the variety, options, and quality. Would return in a heart beat!

Dear BKHoran,

We were delighted to welcome you to be part of the Ulusaba family for a few days, and couldn’t have been happier to hear that your visit was the highlight of your trip! Phil and David wanted to say a big thank you for your kind comments, they really enjoyed taking you on the game drives and helping you to spot the big 5. Phil was beaming from ear to ear when he heard that you managed to get some perfect shots on your camera to remember the experience by! Our favourite part of your review was hearing that you’d return in a heartbeat, we would all love the opportunity to welcome you back and just hope that we won’t have to wait too long.

This was the fulfilment of one my longest dreams and one my wife had shared for many many years. We flew into Ulusaba from Joburg on Fedair. Easiest way to get there. We were greeted by Phil our ranger who along with Dave the tracker who were with us throughout our stay. Everybody thinks their ranger and tracker are the best. We certainly did. They are friendly and knowledgeable. Phil is also an outstanding photographer and helped me enormously. Food is fantastic service excellent. You really do feel part of the family. I shall not spoil any surprises suffice it to say they are of the fabulous variety. We had amazing game viewing. We stayed in a river room which is reached via a series of rope bridges. They are safe etc but if you are a bit unsteady on your feet perhaps not ideal room. There are many others with easy access though. We are rarely sad to leave a place but we really were leaving here. The only problem we have is finding the means to go back. One thing is for sure. It will happen. Thank you to all the people who looked after us so very well

Dear Lasse P,

I don’t think we could ask for a bigger compliment than hearing that we helped you and your wife fulfil a longstanding dream at Ulusaba, the pleasure was truly all ours! Phil and Dave both really enjoyed taking you on your game drives and were over the moon when they heard that you thought they were ‘the best’, thank you. We couldn’t agree more that seeing you leave was the saddest part, but we were delighted to hear that you will be back. We are already looking forward to seeing you again one day to make more amazing memories.

Ulusaba is undoubtedly the most amazing location my husband and I have ever stayed. Of course the location and the stunning lodge buildings are incredible but the staff and service are faultless. I can't give enough praise for this place and anyone thinking of going will not be disappointed. Particular thanks to Calvin our ranger who went out of his way to make our game drives the experience of a lifetime. Thank you Ulusaba and hopefully see you again soon!!

I stayed at Ulusaba for two nights after a work trip in Johannesburg. I was totally blown away. The rooms up at rock cliff lodge have incredible views over the bush which really take your breath away and the safari lodge is right in with nature - wherever you stay you'll love it. I went on three game drives with Liam (our guide) and James (our tracker). Liam was very informative but also a hell of a lot of a fun and we had a really great time with him. He was so passionate about all the animals in the bush - even dwarf mongoose who have licking battles or millipedes which secrete cyanide (who knew?!). We saw the big five multiple times and were lucky enough to sit next to a lion as it roared, see a leopard stalk an impala, hang out with a baby elephant and a baby rhino. It was my first safari experience and it's set the bar really high. It also made me really happy that Liam emphasised the importance of not disturbing the animals and being impartial (not scaring an impala into the jaws of a leopard by driving too close for example). He was so respectful of all the animals which was really nice to see. I'm already planning my next visit - can't wait to get back here. It is expensive but it is worth every penny (it's all inclusive and they even do complementary laundry - a real bonus!).

(disclaimer - I work for Virgin and got a staff rate but it did not sway my review in any way. I genuinely had the best time EVER!)

Dear Tania S,

It’s always a treat to welcome a Safari Virgin to Ulusaba, and we were all so pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your experience with us! Liam and James really enjoyed guiding you and wanted to say a big thank you for your lovely compliments, it was a pleasure to hear that you took away some newfound knowledge as well as the memories. The animals hold a very special place in our hearts and the least we can do is treat them with the upmost respect, so we were so pleased to hear how much this means to you too. We couldn’t be happier to hear that you can’t wait to visit us again, because we can’t wait to welcome you back!

Hands down one of the best experiences I have had the pleasure to experience whilst on holidays. From the second we got off the plane to the last second on the tarmac on the way home, the staff were phenomenal. When we touched down we were treated with drinkis at the airport and introduced to our guide Kyle and our tracker Sam who remained with us for our stay. You couldnt have asked for more knowledgeable and friendly blokes to take you on safari. Greated at the lodge by Sandra and Robyn who were also fantastic and just good people to be around. Our room was fantastic. Pre safari drinks and nibbles before heading off on our first safari. Ticked off the big five pretty much straight away. Couldnt ask for more. After safari the chef greats you and runs through the nights menu and the hostess of the night does the same for the wine. The food during out stay was sensational. If I had to pick fault with my stay it would only be that fact that sadly, at some stage, you have to leave. Would be back in a heart beat. Unbelievable experience.

Dear Mick N,

You certainly know how to put a big smile on our faces, what an outstanding review! It was a true pleasure to welcome you to Ulusaba and we were all so touched to read your special review, none more so than Kyle, Sam, Sandra and Robin who wanted to say a big thank you for the personal mentions. It sounds like you had a fantastic experience on your game drives, to spot the big five straight away is a real treat and we were so glad to play a part in your experience! We have to agree that the worst part was seeing you leave, we would love to welcome you back in a heartbeat and just hope we won’t have to wait too long.
