“Colorful place with great hosts”
Reviewed 2 November 2013

Oh, what can I say about this place? Well, for one the owners are great. Chatting with Leon is a blast, he is a funny guy and one of the more interesting persons we met. The guesthouse is stuffed with memorabilia from all ages and it also holds a bar (one that is filled to the rim with bottles and the earlier mentioned memorabilia. On the other side of the road there is a garden that is part of Tradouw where Priscilla, the pig, can be found. She is also the main attraction of Barrydale, next to the brandy that you can buy there. Barrydale is a quiet Karoo town where in itself there is not a lot of things happening. One exception is there: there is a restaurant close to the guesthouse on the R63, it is great. Beautiful food, a real treat. The surroundings lend itself for great hikes. Breakfast is good, the rooms are nice. The garden facing rooms are a little bigger. The reason to stay the night here are the hosts and the restaurant at the R63. That and quietness.

Stayed over for two nights - absolute bliss. Lovely house, rooms and breakfast. Leon was very charming and a source of good information about Barrydale and surrounds. The room we stayed had a garden view, and was all in all very comfortable. The Tradaouw Guesthouse is a must for any person stopping over in Barrydale.

The guest house is within easy walking distance from the excellent Clarke of the Karoo restaurant which is a must for anyone looking for good food - the lamb curry is to die / live for

From the time we arrived until we left we were made to feel welcome.

Clean comfortable room, hot shower, comfortable bed and a great breakfast. What more do you want?

The price is also very reasonsble so this will be the place we stay if we ever need accommodation in the area.

This place is charming and a lovely place to stay owners were very friendly and welcoming. Bedrooms had everything needed, tea/coffee, extra blankets, hot water bottles, books, magazines. En suite bathroom was a little small.

Food was excellent, lovely area to relax in with a fire in the evening, I would definately return.

Our stayover was a late booking and I was not quite sure what to expect, as it was also our first sleep-over in Barrydale. What a pleasant surprise. Everything at the Tradouw Guesthouse was what we could have hoped for. From the initial warm & friendly welcome from our host Leon, to the excellent directions and references to the local fare on the Saturday night (pub, sports TV, dinner reservation and the like) - to the perfect settings in and around the garden cottage at the back of the guesthouse. Leon and Denis will see us again; this place is highly recommended.

Room Tip: Garden Cottage / Room at the back of the house. These have the tranquility of the dorp's quiet...

If you have not yet visited Barrydale then you have not yet completed the Route 62 and the Klein Karoo. Which ever way you arrive in Barrydale you have to make a point to drive over the famous Tradouw Pass - one of Thomas Bain's best road passes. Barrydale itself is a small village and not far from the centre is the charming Tradouw Guest House. Run by Leon and Denis, this B&B is suited perfectly to the small village character, filled with quaint items, paintings and books. The rooms are cozy and the lounge area perfect for a winter evening. Summer days can be spent in the garden and outdoor seating area with plenty of places to find a ray of sunlight or shade. While Leon looks after your needs Denis prepares delicious food making this establishment an ideal getaway.
