The hotel is in a great location but our room was much more rustic/basic and not as boutique as we were expecting. Our room was comfortable and we had a nice view of the village. The toilet cubicle could have been cleaner, the floor definately needed a sweep. The glass shower cubicle was unusually in the room rather than en-suite (not very private if that bothers you) and it took 10 minutes to get hot water in the morning. Having said that, the price paid was great value and we had a very comfortable stay. We were guests back in November 2012 so things may well have improved since then. The hotel has great potential and the Clark of the Karoo restaurant is a great asset, we enjoyed a lovely dinner and breakfast there.

Happy to hear that overall you enjoyed your stay ! Yes we certainly are not a "boutique" hotel and never will be. We are a genuine South African three star country hotel ,serving genuine South African fare and the best wines this country has. We prefer character to boutique. Having said that, a floor that needs sweeping is certainly not character. With the rustic dirt roads in Barrydale and with the summer breeze in November , we unfortunately overlooked that one and apologise for it. You were lodged in one of our smaller Klein Karoo rooms - we do have larger Groot Karoo rooms available with full en suite bathrooms at n slightly higher rate. Please try one of them next time! Or perhaps even our great Garden Suite, with private courtyard.

In 2012, Grey High School in PE embarked on a 1000 km Cycle Tour from Cape Town to PE to raise funds for a local charity. All proceeds raised were donated to Touch Africa and with the wonderful donation and hospitality received from The Barrydale Karoo Hotel, we were able to raise close to R100 000 which enabled us to build a school in the Transkei. Without hesitation, The Barrydale Karoo Hotel went out of their way to accommodate our entire group (all 20 cyclists) at NO EXPENSE and were unbelievable in assisting us with all our accessories (trailers, bikes etc.). An exceptional caring attitude to our cause was highlighted in that the Hotel sponsored all our accommodation, dinner and breakfast for our entire group of 20 persons. They even went out of their way to arrange a visit to the local springs for our cyclists. Our stay at The Barrydale Karoo Hotel was an absolute highlight of our tour with their kind generosity amounting to thousands or rands. The accommodation, service and all that goes with it was absolutely word class. A must for anyone. What an unbelievable Hotel and people. Humbled. Dean Carelse

Wonderfull hotel and restaurant in a "must see & stop-over town".
Rooms and bathrooms are spacious and well equipped.
Breakfast and Dinner, at the best Karoo Restaurant, Clark of the Karoo, is surely an experience to remember!!

Room 13 in our hotel is also known as the "Magpie Room" as it is decorated by The Magpie Collective,or very artistic neighbours across the road! One of my favourite rooms too.

We needed a break and decided to try something different. Our stay at the Barrydale Karoo Hotel delivered just what the doctor ordered. The service was friendly, the food excellent and the overall time spent in Barrydale was relaxing and comfortable. The hotel's setting in the centre of town makes for easy exploration both locally and of the picturesque R62. The whole family tremendously enjoyed our time. We'll be back!

I recently stayed over in the Barrydale Karoo Hotel just as the winter started to settle in. We we welcomed warmly by the Reception and whisked up to the room in a few minutes flat. The rooms are spacious and extremely comfortable with all the amenities associated with top star quality. The restaurant caters for breakfasts, which was delicious and have an extensive wine list which will cater to the most discerning palate. Also found that the bar area has a roaring fire in the evening and the locals obviously tend to congregate and mix with the visitors in a relaxed atmosphere. The only negative was the noise of the alterations of their new huge fireplace and moving rooms was not an option during the day even though the hotel was not fully booked. Other than that I will surely recommend the Hotel to all and sunder. Johan Jordaan - Cape Town

Dear Guest !
So sorry you were disturbed by the sounds of us building our new hearth in the lounge..My staff informs me you never complained or requested to be moved to another room - we gladly would have assisted. The new fireplace is finished, big, and working ! As a token of our regret for your inconvenience , you will be given a free bottle of wine on your next stay. But I am very happy to hear that, apart from this glitch, you loved your stay. This is what we want to hear!

The small town hospitality of the Karoo is well known, but the Barrydale Karoo Hotel has more - there's this personal touch, spacious rooms with crispy clean linen, free wifi if you need to stay connected, and a restaurant with a superb menu, and wonderfully prepared dishes. We'll be back! Johan & Alda Engelbrecht, Somerset West

Thank you Johan + Alda! Much appreciated.
We aim to be an honest typical South African platteland hotel with genuine hospitality ,great food, wine, company and fun. Thank you for confirming that we are on the right track.
We hope to get even better. We have just succeeded in recruiting one of the most promising new South African traditional Karoo food chefs ,Toitnette du Toit, still doing well on Kokkedoor food series on KykNet. Things will soon be cooking even more at the Barrydale Karoo Hotel!
Kom kuier weer en proe hierdie kos!.
