“Gorgeous Tranquil Setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 February 2013

We had a lovely overnight stay at Ikhaya. The cottage is just perfect, with a lovely setting close to the river and views of the surrounding mountains. The cottage is simply but beautifuly furnished with such nice attention to detail including a small carafe of sherry as a welcome! Its situation is beautifully peaceful but not far from Barrydale, perhaps 3km at most so if you werent in the mood to selfcater, near enough to the restaurants of Barrydale. We just wish we could have spent more time to enjoy some hikes in the area which I'm sure are well worth doing.

We are so happy to have found this little peace of heaven on a route we so often travel and will definately make this one of our regular stops! Friendly staff lead you thro a valley to a cottage perched on a small hill overlooking a river and the magestic mountain range beyond! The cottage is perfectly equipped and extremely comfortable - lovely stone and rock bath - deep with plenty of hot water! We love sitting on the terrace listening to the wind in the trees and the river rushing by. Perfect stay in every way! We will definately be back.

We stayed in the River Ikhaya cottage with our 2 year old daughter and parents. Very clean and simple with all the necessities you could want for a relaxing weekend away. There was a troop of baboons on the cliff across the river which provided much excitement for our daughter! Carol and Rodger were very welcoming, we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Both the rooms are right on the river, so either one is a good choice

River Ikhaya cottage: Stunningly simple accommodation for those wanting to get away for a quiet break. Finishing touches make a home away from home. At this time the designated walks need to be re-made after floods, but otherwise it is nice to just relax and chill out on the veranda! The wandering Nguni cows will come say hello now and again, and there are baboons and buck which will chatter in the bush! Plenty of bird life too. Easy to find, helpful owners. Marie & Koos are characters who run the cottages, lovely chatting to them! Carol & Rodger have done a splendid job creating this special place.

We stayed here overnight on our meander back from Cape Town to Johannesburg.

You have your own cottage with not another dwelling in sight - just the cows on the other side of the stream and some evidence lying around :) of various buck. Not a sound. Fantastic sense of peace - you sit on the veranda and think of... nothing at all.

There is a fireplace in the cottage, two braais (BBQ) outside - wood supplied but matches, firelighters not) and a completely adequate kitchenette. The bed was great, there is a victorian bath in the room and an outside shower!

This is perfect for a weekend getaway from Cape Town (only 2.5 - 3 hours drive). Its 2km to town and there are a couple of recommended restuarants there.
