“Franskraal B&B is a MUST for anyone travelling going cage diving!”
Reviewed 22 March 2010

There is too much to praise to put in a review so in summary, this little B&B is second to none. The owners Helmie and Amanda are simply amazing - the most hospitable, welcoming and generous couple. After a long drive they were awaiting our arrival, where we were shown our beautiful, large bedroom with views of the sea, lovely decorations and bathroom products etc. On being offered a drink to unwind and relax we found ourselves upstairs looking out over the sea, and whilst planning on driving out for dinner, instead were invited to stay with them and their friends for a truely authentic and delicious dinner and drinks. It was a wonderful evening and one of the best experiences we had in our 2 wk stay travelling around SA. Thank you Amanda and Helmie for making our stay so special, and also for the fabulous vineyard tour, we felt privilidged. This is an experience we will continue to talk about for years to come and for anyone passing through the area or going shark diving (under 5 minute drive away), you would be mad to miss Franskraal B&B! My boyfriend and I had a lovely stay at this B&B, we had a spacious room with large bath tub, seperate shower and seperate WC. The hosts Helmie and Amanda were very welcoming and relaxed and I could see thoroughly enjoy their role as hosts by the seaside. No detail is overlooked and little treats like chocolates on the pillow and coming home to little treats in the room is a pleasure.

We based ourselves here to be near Gansbaai for cage shark diving and could not find anything we liked in our price range in Gansbaai. The only thing that I would point out is there is no restaurant in Franskraal so for dinner we would need to drive 5-10 mins to Gansbaai which was fine by us however could be a problem if you both wanted to drink.

The breakfast is AMAZING and on the first floor balcony overlooking the sea - lovely way to start the day.

My partner & I stayed one night at Franskraal B&B located in Franskraal, a tiny village next to Gansbaai, South Africa. The B&B was chosen for its proximity to shark cage diving excursions and for its reasonable pricing. (Also, the B&B had an excellent rating from Trip Advisor.)

We arrived at Franskraal B&B around 6pm and were impressed with the location of the B&B – right across the road from the Indian Ocean! In front of the B&B you could see a mother and her baby whale playing in the ocean and fisherman fishing from the rocks. Parking our car right out front, we were warmly greeted by the owners who treated us like long lost relatives in from the cold! After an 8 hour car journey from Addo Elephant Park, the beers and hospitality were much appreciated! Sitting on the deck and watching the sunset was a nice way to unwind before going for dinner in town (which by the way… restaurants close early if not busy!)

The B&B is new and has 3 tastefully decorated rooms with en-suite bathrooms equipped with satellite TV... ideal for couples, families and / or disabled travellers. Our double bed room was on the ground floor and could be accessed by a separate, private door leading to the outside. The room was spacious and comfortable and had the option of shower or bath. I wish I would have had time to laze & soak in the gigantic bathtub built for two!

The owners were kind enough to book our shark cage diving for the next morning and obliged to serve a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs & salmon at what ever time suited us - this being 630 am.

In the morning after breakfast, one of the owners escorted us to the shark cage diving location and pointed out on our map excellent spots for whale watching from the coast. The shark diving company recommended was friendly and knowledgeable; shedding light on the conservation efforts needed to save the Great White Shark from extinction. Later in the day, we went to the spots marked on the map for whales… BINGO! 12 whales in our sights in under five minutes!

What a warm welcome we received to Gaansbai: if you ever happen to be near there - do not miss this fabulous "B & B". Each room is beautifully arranged, pure comfort, especially after a hard day's touring around the area. Highly recommended!

We spent an extremely enjoyable 2 days with the owners of this B and B located in a suburb of Gaaansbai. The guesthouse is on the coast road with a fine view of the sea. We were there in winter when the pace of life is frankly slow and drivers never stop at the signs, although they do give way to the tortoises!

Although the Franskraal only has 3 guest rooms, they are all extremely large, beautifully furnished and well equipped. Our stay was extremely comfortable and the breakfast on the veranda was excellent. Owner Amanda and her husband bent over backwards to make sure all went well.
