we had the most fantastic time in this restaurant made absolutely unbelievable by meeting jamie who was a friend of the owners and looking after the place whilst they were on holiday. i cant really describe in words how fun it was but we got to know just about everyone in the restaurant - diners and staff. i dont remember the food but the enjoyment was above any other eating establishment we had experienced. good luck to you jamie for the rest of your life because you really made our evening!!!

Thank you for you review. It was great having you here in Gansbaai and at the Blue Goose. Must say Jamie took the party to another level, as only she can! It was great to see all the guest in your area chatting to one another. It looked like a family reunion. We will visit you in 2015. All the best. Riaan Franken

“Delicious food & a wonderful warm ambience”
Reviewed 5 November 2013

We had two excellent experiences at this restaurant. We arrived at the restaurant straight from a 2 hour drive from Cape Town to a warm welcome from the staff and were seated right next to the fire as it was a cool evening. They were already busy when we got there at 6h30 with accents from all over the world immediately noticeable and lots of laughter and chatting going on across multiple tables. Before we had finished our meal, we made a second reservation for our last evening in the area.

Over the 2 evenings we were there we ordered the Rump Espetada & chips, a meal made up of 3 versions of calamari with salad, 1kg of ribs with chips, deep fried calamari & rice and the malva pudding. Every single thing was fresh and cooked to perfection. My personal favourites were the ribs (which I pilfered from my husband) & the deep fried calamari - I would drive 2 hours for those again tomorrow! And as a 6-moth pregnant woman, that is saying something as my pregnancy has made me extremely fussy with food.

The owner and staff were lovely - polite and courteous and again the warmth is worth mentioning. After reading other reviews, I think it is worth noting that although the food did not fly out of the kitchen, it is all made fresh from scratch with an incredible attention to detail, and we never waited longer than 30 minutes either evening and both times they were very busy.

We will definitely return and would recommend this to anyone looking for fresh, delicious food and a friendly upmarket venue with good prices.

“Great Food and Location”
Reviewed 2 November 2013

This conveniently located restaurant, just a block away from the Gansbaai backpackers, was quiet, romantic and served delicious food. We dined there two nights in a row and really enjoyed the ambiance and food. Together, we tried the french salad, chicken livers, rump, rump espetada, yellowtail and a dom pedro dessert. Everything was great. The steaks are marinaded in a heavy A1 type sauce so if you prefer lighter flavor or just garlic butter marinade, be sure to ask the chef.

“Terribly Disappointing”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

Our B&B owners helped us reserve a table for the four of us for dinner. We were in Gansbaai for the shark/seal/whale experience.
Upon entering, the restaurant was charming, even if one has to lower one's head to pass through the doorway into the eating area.
The maître d' was not very friendly, but we did not let that bother us.
The menu was interesting and our beverage order was taken quite quickly. We all chose different entrees so that we could sample several of the tempting dishes. Then we sat and waited and waited and waited for the food to arrive. We did mention when we first arrived that it would be appreciated if we could be served somewhat quickly as we needed to get to bed early for a 5 am wake up call for the boat adventure.
Close to 90 minutes after taking our order, the food finally arrived. We were so tired by that point and so hungry, that we truly ate without speaking a word and promptly left the restaurant.
It is understandable that there are times when restaurants have kitchen or staff problems. I would highly suggest were that to be the case, it would be a good idea to communicate with your guests, offer up a bread basket or appetizer ( there wasn't even a peanut on the table,) and end on a positive note- a dessert on the house, along with an apology!

“The seafood platter where the best!”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

The staff where friendly, the food prices is not to bad. I did not have the pleasure to meet the owners and say thanks. The place looks from outside like small house but inside the decor and ambiance where excellent, there where two fire's burning. It is a little drafty if it rains on the enclosed veranda side. Will look nice with some thick curtains to keep the cold away from your back if you facing the windows. Overall I will recommend it anytime and will definitley eat there again. Excellent venue and food.
