“Top 5 meals from 3 weeks in South Africa”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2014

This place is an old stone fishing cottage that has been redone into a restaurant. Pick the room with the fire place for the most ambiance.

The food was spectacular. The calamari, chicken liver peri peri, line fish, and the desserts were all extremely delicious and very well presented. Why this is number 4 is beyond me as this is an amazing place that is very reasonably priced.

Do yourself a favor and head over to the Blue Goose if you're in Gansbaai.

“BEST FILET EVER..”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014

The Blue Goose restaurant is a relatively new addition to the Gansbaai dining choices, but it is housed in a familiar place - the stone cottage that was home to Ciro's for quite a few years.
Our experience there was outstanding. My wife and had filets (on the menu as a fillet in South Africa) and it was as good as any I have ever ordered - anywhere! Served in a reduced wine sauce that made the remarkably large and tender filet even more memorable.
Grandson had a burger, son and his wife had seafood, granddaughter had pasta.. Everything was better than anyone would have expected.
Better? Small restaurant, small town - you expect 'pretty good' in a nice place such as this but we were served 'superb' food - and we will be going back regularly.

“Friendly establishment, tasty meal.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

We enjoyed a delightful two course meal. A lovely log fire burned in the conservatory where we were seated, this added to the ambience. The food was delicious, especially the malva that we enjoyed for dessert!

Thank you for your beautiful review. Our Malva pudding is over the top.... too much butter, too muck sugar...too much cream...... hey, it is dessert after all.

“Nice place good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014 via mobile

The service was friendly, the decor was nice, the food yummy. Except for the overpriced prawn starter (tasty, but consisted of the smallest ever 5 shrimps for R50) it was great. The lamb main was delicious.

Thank you for your lovely review. We are happy that you enjoyed your visit to the Blue Goose. I agree that any prawn dish has become so expensive. We use a smaller size prawn and serve 100g (raw) of cleaned prawn as a starter. The price of prawns has increase by more than 80% during the last 15 months. It has become so expensive that it will probably disappear from a lot of restaurant menus. Prawns are becoming a very expensive delicacy. Kind regards Riaan Franken
