My husband and I went to Ngoma for our honeymoon, and it was the last place we visited on our trip.
Our travel agent sent us to Ngoma Lodge in Botswana because elephants are my favorite animal, and Botswana is known for having an abundance of them. Sure enough, there was (literally) tons of them, everywhere we went. So many elephants to see, it was great!
The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
The room was very nice, cozy, and had a great view, however don't expect to see anything at night, as the lighting everywhere is very dim. The room was always clean and comfortable. One minor note is that as of this writing, the lodge doesn't have a telephone system, so there's no way to call the main lodge or other rooms. Since it is dangerous to walk alone at night (There is no electrical fence surrounding the camp), the only way to get a hold of anyone in an emergency is via the air horn canister included in each room.
The food was was pretty good; it didn't blow us away, but we really had no complaints, and we were always full.
The game drives were fun. However the first full day was very long. Starting around 8am and ending at 6pm. We drove in a canvas topped land rover for two hours in the cold to go on a river safari. The river safari was really cool, and we got to see the game from a different perspective; like seeing elephants swimming in the water. It just took way too long to get there. The staff said they are working on changing the location of their boat dock, and trying to get a more direct access to the park, but since the camp is only 3 years old, these things take a lot of time and paperwork to get moving.
After the river safari, which ended around noon, we started our game drive back through the park to the camp. We stopped around 2:30pm for lunch and then continued on our safari after that. We saw lots of animals including: lions, hippos, cape buffalo, giraffes, lots of different kinds of birds, and, of course, elephants.
The staff made our honeymoon extra special. When we got back to our room after our game drive, we were greeted by flower petals on our bed and a trail of flowers that led to the bath tub which was already drawn up for us along with a bottle of champagne and grass rings that were made by one of the local villagers.
We definitely recommend staying here, however if you come in the winter be sure to dress appropriately for the long drives in and out of the park.
