My family and I loved the warm and professional staff. Cath the GM was wonderful and make our trip very special. The game drives yielded lots of sightings including a pair of male lions and lots of elephants, giraffes, kudu and gazelle. Our rooms were homey and comfortable. We are heading back to Texas very satisfied customers.

What can I say? Our room looked over the flood plains and wild life in the foreground amazing. The lodge is quite small which we loved, 11 rooms in total which gives it a real personal feel. The hosts Robert and Joy were very welcoming and made the whole experience so much more with stories around the camp fire. The guides were very knowledgeable and wanted you to see everything possible so thank you Rambo. If you want to see big herds of elephant, zebra, giraffe, hippo, warthog, crocodiles, various bucks, birds and if lucky lions and leopards then I highly recommend this lodge. The river cruise is a must; elephants playing in the river, crocodiles stalking their pray and hippo's doing as little as they can. excellent! Food fab, bar fab and even laundered your safari clothes free for the next day. Can't wait to go back.

Beautiful location with great views from all rooms. Bed was comfortable and accommodation was very clean. Remember to take conditioner with you as I did not find it in 3 of the four lodges we stayed at. Warm welcome from the manager and his wife every time we returned from a game drive. A well organised and managed lodge with tasty food. A big thank you to all the staff at Muchenje for a memorable stay – in particular to our enthusiastic guide Lips! It was great to see an elephant drinking water from the lodge swimming pool! Night drives and the village visit are not really worth it – the drive is just around the lodge – better to conserve your energy for day drives and the long full day activities! Don’t miss the river cruise – that was our high light.

My honey and I stayed two nights at Muchenje in the family suite with our friend. The best part of the experience was our guide "Lips." He has eleven years of experience at Muchenje and really knows his the Chobe National Park. The favorite part was the three hour river cruise. We saw more animals than one could imagine.

The family room is very nice with two bathrooms and a king bed on the ground floor and two twins or a king bed on the second level. Be sure you are comfortable climbing a well made ladder to the loft area for your safety. The view from the porch is excellent and the bathtub with a view is special.

Overall we enjoyed visiting Chobe and the wide variety and quantity of animals. Watching an elephant drinking out of the lodge's swimming pool was unusual.

Room Tip: There is only one family room, so reserve it early if you need that type of facility.

We finished our 2 1/2 weeks of safari at the Muchenje Safari Lodge. We cannot speak highly enough of our welcome from Joy and Robert and the service from all of their staff.
The best way to describe this lodge is unpretentious and very welcoming. Although not as new and up to date as some of our previous safari lodges, Muchenje more than made up for it in food quality, service and atmosphere and the included gin and tonics (or anything else you wanted) at the end of a long hot day were perfect!
By the the time we arrived at Muchenje we were almost "safaried out" and really had no desire to see another elephant or giraffe but they offered something that none of our other safaris did - a boat safari down the Chobe river. I cannot recommend this safari enough as it gives you a very different perspective of both the land and the animals (even the elephants and giraffes!). You are able to float very close to the animals and watch them in and around the water - a great experience! Lunch was also part of the trip and made for a very relaxing day compared to bouncing around in a jeep.
Muchenje is worth considering if you your are in Botswana and are looking for a home away from home.

Innnkeepers Joy and Robert are knowledgeable and very nice hosts. The entire staff is ever-alert to ask if you need help any time during your stay. The cottages are very nice, well appointed and serviced quite well. The food is excellent, with plenty of tasty, fresh fruit and vegetables, good breads, and nice meat dishes. Be prepared for new tastes in the dishes -- they may look like something that you would cook at home but the seasoning & spices are different, giving them a unique but pleasant taste. The trained guides are excellent at finding game, and they keep in touch by radio to pass along reports of sightings. The lodge is quite elegant in a rustic manner: it is at the top of a hill, with excellent views of the Chobe River.

We spent a couple of nights at Muchenje and of all the lodges we visited during our holiday, it was this one that we'd go back to - for a longer stay.

First the background. We'd managed to drive about 3000Km through Namibia, spending four days in Etosha, and along the way, I doubt we'd seen many more than 20 elephants. If elephants are how you assess wildlife safari trips, then it would have all been disappointing - but it wasn't. As we drove across the Ngoma Bridge into Botswana, we could see at least 100 ellies from the picnic bench helpfully placed halfway across the bridge in no-mans-land. The border post is staffed by the most strikingly pretty ladies we saw in all of Africa (my wife confirmed this), and as we left the border post we were treated to a procession of ellies crossing the road just outside the gate.

Muchenje lodge is positioned on a ridge overlooking the Chobe river valley, and the views from the rooms and the lodge itself are simply stunning. Our bungalow was comfortable (and monkey-proof) and the whole site is simply very nicely laid-out with a terrace and swimming pool. It was a long walk out to our room and as large animals pass through during the night, we were always escorted by the lodge staff.

The food in the lodge was amongst the best we experienced on this trip, and the staff were ready to cater for any special dietary needs. The lodge is managed by an English couple (Robert & Joy) who were very welcoming and made sure that our stay was enjoyable throughout. The guides were very good with excellent wildlife knowledge and well developed English sense of humour.

We enjoyed an evening game drive, then the next day we took the all-day activity which was a boat trip during the morning and a long game drive during the afternoon. With hindsight, I think the game drive part was too long - there were parts of me that felt very relieved not to be sitting in a jeep at the end of it. But the boat trip was simply magnificent. The birds were terrific and most of the game viewing could be done from the (very comfortable) boat. Possibly the best part was the picnic lunch in the boat while a couple of ellies splashed about in the river beside us. I mentioned the elephant-famine we'd experienced in Namibia - we must have seen well over 2,000 elephants in one day on that game drive. And the buffalo were equally numerous with one group of over 1,000 spread along the river bank.

With hindsight, perhaps we should have taken a boat trip, then had a break and gone for a game drive later, but our time there was limited.
