This was our last stop in Botswana on a 12 day tour. We had 3 excellent days made so by the place and the welcoming people. Rooms food and game viewing and tracking are excellent.
Game in quality not quantity but harsh environment made this all the more relevant.
Great bushman experience and overall excellent staff quality and service.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights and had a wonderful time. The family owned and operated lodge and safari guiding provided a unique experience that the other lodges we stayed at in Botswana could not provide. When your hosts are the same people that poured their sweat and money into building the lodge it adds a new level of enjoyment to the experience. The game drives with Jacobus were very enjoyable and the bushmen bush walk with Clissi (sp?) was a unique experience that allowed us to learn something about how the bushmen used to live (only a short 20-30 yrs ago). Jacobus and Clissi were also skilled at tracking lions providing us a great experience watching a pride come back together after a full day of (attempted) hunting. The watering hole out front of the lodge provided some interesting game viewing as well (giraffes drinking, ostrich staking its claim against kudu, wildabeast, and warthogs).

The new chef was fantastic, gourmet class. The service was amazing and the villas are very spacious and well appointed. We were the only ones at the lodge on the last night and a 2 seater table was setup for us right beside the camp fire, a very nice touch.

My wife and I started our trip in Botswana in Deception Valley Lodge and the experience was EXCEPTIONAL !! Our host, Jaku, picked us up at the airstrip and three days of safari pampering started. Game drives were very interesting, thanks to a very knowledgeable Jaku and the fantastic tracker Tchota. They showed us the wonders of the Kalahari desert and all its beauties.
The food was our biggest surprise: the cook created and cooked wonderful dishes with local game and all sorts of fresh products: these were the best meals we had during our whole trip.
We had the chance of being the only guests during our stay, so we got extra spoiled by the whole staff.
All the rest of the food, amenities, rooms, ... were also perfect, so we really keep a wonderful memory of Deception Valley Lodge. Thank you Jaku and the whole team !
We will go back and stay longer if possible.

We began our African adventure here and were so glad. It was the perfect introduction. The accommodatin is spacious and comfortable, the food wonderful and the hospitality superb. There is a real personal approach to the experience here brought about by the family atmosphere and the open friendly manner of the owners and their staff. The game viewing was enhanced by the depth of knowledge about the animals and the extra length Jacob and his team went to to give us a close up and personal observation. Having the tracker on board was a bonus. He was so interesting to watch and to learn from.

We learnt a lot about the life of the Kalahari bushmen from the cultural afternoon and walk through the bush.

Room Tip: All rooms are good. Each is situated to provide privacy without compromising the views and feeling l...

Deception Valley Lodge was the perfect place to stay and relax while taking in all that the Kalahari has to offer. It is perfect as a family holiday, a couples retreat or a bird watching trip. We went as a family of four aged 21-69 and stayed in the two furthest bungalows which were amazing. Each night out rooms were turned down and hot water bottles placed in our bed to warm them. The food was fantastic, they cater to all needs and try and encourage you to eat special dishes.
Braun and the team were extremely welcoming and made sure we were warm and safe at all times.

We saw every animal imaginable from warthog to giraffe and zebra and up so close! Each lunchtime animals would gather by the Watering hole just infront of the lodge for us to watch. Braun asked us each day what we would like to see and endeavoured to deliver. We saw both lion prides up close and their cubs!
As well as animals we spent an afternoon with the bushmen learning about how they used to live and how they survived int he desert. It was extremely interesting and insightful
Braun also allowed us to go for a walk around and get some exercise.

We visited in late July, it was warm during the day and pretty chilly at night. Braun provided blankets and hot water bottles for night drives but I recommend packing for warm and cold weather! and don't forget your bathers for the pool.
I think three nights is the optimal time to stay to take in everything the Lodge has to offer.
We would return in a heart beat and thank the team for their hospitality.

We finished our Botswana tour here and the accommodation was the best we experienced. The wildlife was wonderful; we saw lions, giraffe, oryx, zebra, hartebeest, springbok, etc. as well as some interesting birds. The lodge own a large area of land and are able to go off-road to track the animals. The food is very good and plentiful, we had a beautiful evening with just my wife and I dining by the fire on a table set in the sand. The owner is enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and has inexhaustible energy to show you things. The San people encounter is charming and not patronising as some of these things can be, just a genuine explanation of their previous lifestyle. All the staff made this a memorable stay.

We had a one month trip to Zambia and Botswana with our boys ages 15 & 18, and finished with three nights at Deception Valley Lodge. It was a wonderful way to finish the trip. We enjoyed the very experienced guides, including the local trackers. It was incredible how they could follow the animal tracks and find lions for us. We even witnessed a pride of lions at a kill.
The food was well prepared and interesting including some delicious game meat cooked on a BBQ for dinner. Each afternoon we had a wonderful tea with sweet and savoury homemade baked goods before the outing. It was a real treat.
The cabins are very large and comfortable. The main lodge is welcoming and a nice place to spend the time between drives. There is a watering hole in front of the lodge that attracts animals during the day. It was great to watch them.
