This is a fantastic fine dining gastro pub. A family run business with owners who are present and really care about your experience.

The food was playful and tasty - some new ideas which you won’t see every day.

If you want a friendly welcome with high quality cuisine - this is the place to come.

Visited here a few times and it’s gradually got worse. The last visit we were made to feel very unwelcome. The food standard of the tasting menu was very underwhelming. The worst tasting menu I’ve had by far. Just small portions of pub grub. The lamb was incredibly chewy and I couldn’t eat mine. They waiter told us sometimes they get a bad batch in… ok.
The owner was knocking about (or who i believe to be the owner) and he relaid some of our cutlery between courses and seemed like he did not want us there. Plonking the cutlery down and not even trying to engage with us. Think he was too busy wanting to speak to some of the locals.
Won’t be back. The last two times have been bad and this trip was just awful. Waste of a lot of money.

We visited The Chequers for a birthday meal, and enjoyed superb food and service as always.
The complementary gift of home-made chocolates was absolutely divine.
Already looking forward to our next visit.

Have been a customer for many years and for very good reason - Ranki, Dritan, Jamie, Kristo and team never disappoint and definitely delivered on my (big) Hawaii birthday. Hostly as ever and food is next level. Coronation Cauliflower and Hafod Cheddar scotch egg was a starter fit for a king and Hereford beef main just melted in the mouth. Huge thanks to chef Jamie and the kitchen team for their consistently fabulous work!!

We arrived to find we were the 2nd couple who had booked for the whole evening. So why were we sat at the next table? Initially no music so we were whispering. Eventually music was put on. There was just no atmosphere at all.
The waitress was supercilious & although knowledgeable, did not make us feel welcome.
I mentioned that the ham was very salty but it was just shrugged off. I didn’t bother to mention that the egg was still gloopy & sitting on a slice of tinned pineapple! The ‘poached’ oyster was still raw although the butter was divine.
I asked if there was an alternative to the bitter dark chocolates but was just told the chef had made them. The cost was excessive, as was the wine. Even the cocktails were cheaper than a glass of wine.
