Used to often go to the Five Bells when living just around the corner, but having moved from Weston Turville a couple of years ago, its been some time since going in - and wasnt really how I remembered it.
While this is a lovely country style pub, with nice surroundings, and friendly staff, the food left a little to be desired. It seemed to be mostly 'cooked from frozen' food, served to look better than it tasted.
Two of the group had the Calamari starter, which tasted bland and of cheap quality, and another two had steak for main, and were presented with a relitively small cut, which was quite fatty.
Weston Turville has some lovely pubs - and while this is adequate, and probably a lovely place to pop in for a drink, I would recommend somewhere else for food.

Food on the special lunch time menu is good value and pretty good quality. What impressed me most was the very friendly and efficient young staff which is a credit to the establishment

We ordered Lunch off the menu , one brie and bacon sandwich and thick cut chips and a rump steak with chips onion rings and side salad, but with my diet I said please no chips or onion rings please and can I have extra veg instead , and then paid extra money for an extra portion of veg.
The steak was not Rump but a cheap thin cut of (flank possibly ?)with no fat on as You would expect with a rump steak. The total sum of my veggies fitting into a small soup type bowl on the plate !!! (And a half of a tomato with a lump of garlic pushed into it so the food stank of garlic.)
Taking in mind I paid for an extra portion of veg and had no chips it was very poor indeed and far to expensive for what we received.

Shame really as it could be a nice place.

Also we observed another waitress who personally I would sack as she does the place no favours with her attitude to customers and quality of service.

Have been to this pub a few times with collegues and the food is always good and reasonably priced, the real ale is kept well and the staff are welcoming. Worth a visit.

We have often eaten here before and decided to take a relative for a wedding anniversary lunch (Wednesday 9/4/14) . We were a table of only six and only about a third of the other tables were occupied. While the food was mainly very good (just one plate of sausage and mash not very hot) the service was embarrassingly slow for both courses and we found ourselves apologising to our guest several times. The place seemed short-staffed; meanwhile, the table of eight right next to us seemed bent on being as noisy as possible.

Thank Ian C
