“Beautiful Park and House.”
Reviewed 21 March 2011

I had a wonderful stay here. My room was upgraded and I had a lovely view. The experience of walking down the Jacobean staircase is one i will treasure. I loved the House. Everyone was very helpful. I enjoyed my swim in the Spa and walking round the grounds. A very special stay. Thankyou Hartwell Housel!

From the moment that you arrive at this hotel you know that you are going to have a fabulous stay. You are greeted my friendly and warm reception staff. Our room was not quite ready when we arrived. We sat in one of the beautiful drawing rooms in front of a log fire with a glass of wine. When it came for us to be taken to our room we hardly wanted to leave our cosy spot. We stayed in the Hartwell Suites, the room was beautiful with views out to a courtyard garden. You got the feeling that you were totally secluded and private and could use the grounds coming and going as you wished. The room had a little galley kitchen where you could make hot drinks. We used the spa and stayed until around 8.30 pm enjoying the hot tub outside. We were too tired to go up to the main restaurant and ordered room service which arrived promptly. The food was very good and we even ordered a DVD to watch. The next day had a lovely relaxed breakfast in the spa cafe and then with the help of the handy maps explored the gardens. My only complaint is that I wished we had stayed two nights instead of one. Totally relaxing, helpful, friendly staff, stunning surroundings, all the right ingredients for a short break.

We found Hartwell House after looking for a relaxing spa getaway. It turned out to be a gem hidden only 1hr from London, but a world away in environment. You really feel like you have stepped into a previous time, our suite felt like having our own cottage, with back door leading straight into the estate gardens. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times, and the spa was peaceful and relatively quiet given it was a weekend. Would not hesitate to recommend to friends & family for a chance to really get away from it all for a couple of days.

We stayed at Hartwell House for a saturday night and also enjoyed afternoon tea. We stayed in a suite in the Hartwell Court area rather than the house proper. Our room was very comfortable. Quite old fashioned but in keeping with the hotel!

The Spa (included in our rate) was very relaxing and well maintained. Our afternoon tea was served in the library and was good value and enjoyable (accompanied by a seat in front of a roaring fire). Service was excellent with the staff being very courteous and willing to assist with all requests.

In all a very good exerience.

My Self and my wife stayed there last night...26/02/2011

Run by the national trust all proceeds given to charity and it shows.....Typical of a business run for a charity concern where's there's attention to detail, the staff were very good, the entrance and surrounding estate is fantastic but when its comes to the room for £375 per night you would expect full 5 star surrounding's, but its not and far from it....on arrival to the room the furnishings are very tired and well over due replacing, no mini bar to keep the water cold,(the two very small bottles that were supplied) no fresh fruit, no fresh flowers just a musty smelling room with the heating on as high as it can go to drown out the smell of damp, we went out for dinner with friends that evening after turning down the valves on all radiators and opening the windows to let the heat out before our return only to find the windows had been shut and the radiator valves turned back up to maximum, here we go again at 11.30pm open the windows turn all the valves off after tuning off 8 lamps individually which took an age to carry out between sockets and line switches we eventually got to bed after switching of the bathroom light the hall way light the landing light and the five lamps in the bedroom...that's 15 lights in total!!! we eventually fell asleep in our two single beds joined together with a the grand canyon between us, after laughing about the amount of lights and lamps i had to turn off only to find the radiator valves in the bedroom tuned down to the very minimum or as you would expect off, where in fact not off they were still on full blast, here we go again, down stairs to open the windows turn another 8 lights on to find my way down stairs open the windows and i slept on the settee all night with windows open to get a bit of fresh air...Typical charity run hotel with no care and attention to cost or to the environment on the amount of wasted money and energy....

I have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world and don't mind paying.....take my advice......DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED CASH ON THIS HOTEL!!!!

Hartwell, General Manager at Hartwell House, responded to this review, 16 March 2011
This complaint is not what it seems.
One person made the booking for a friend whose surname he did not know!.
The person who arrived was probably the person who made the booking.
Whoever he was, he left the hotel without checking out or paying.
The hotel only received payment because the person left his mobile telephone number in the bin in his room from which he was traced and payment secured.
This displeased him and this vexatious complaint was made.

Having been able to stay at Hartwell House several times, I can hardly wait to return. Its proximity to Heathrow makes it the perfect place to relax before flying out. The warm, respectful staff knows the secret of unobtrusive service and endears themselves by remembering you even after one stay. The rooms are elegant but invitingly relaxed. Wandering the grounds, watching the swans, spending a decadent day at the spa or pool, all make for a memorable stay.

Having stayed here previously, we arranged a big party for 85 people here in May 2010. Our guests came from all over the world and have travelled extensively, staying in many fine hotels.

The feedback from all was that this is an exceptionally pleasant place to stay:

- efficient, welcoming staff, but not fawning
- wonderful historic buildings, beautifully maintained
- large rooms in the main building, each one different and delightful. Yes, the furnishings are not modern, but they are delightful. Its not the standard hotel fare which makes many hotels look the same nowadays
- excellent food, both at smaller meals and for the main party
- pretty good value for money. A big plus for us is that it is owned by the National Trust - so all profits go for the upkeep of other historic properties.

We can not recommend this hotel enough
