“Hartwell House Hotel and Spa”

What a great overnight stay. We were upgraded without any request from us and the staff could not have been any more helpful. The restaurant was superb. When the heavens opened up as I pulled up outside the hotel, the morning of our departure and my wife hurried to our car there were two members of staff assisting her. I can quite understand why Louis XVIII stayed here for four years from 1809!

My wife and I stayed for one night for our 5yr anniversary and could not fault one thing.
They upgraded us without any request, the room was amazing, the serive on all our meals was superb and the spa was fantastic.
I could not rate this hotel enough!

Came across this hotel so decided to stay the night. We were utterly charmed by the old style "Downton Abbey" and we found the staff were very polite and helpful. We were given a choice of rooms, all very roomy and well fitted out. In such a house you can forgive old plumbing etc. The bed was comfortable and we loved wandering around the passages and the downstairs rooms. The grounds are spacious and a pleasure to walk around. We had breakfast only but that was served in a very formal way, a way that was lost on some other guests who were probably used to the local pub or fast food restaurants. One even wore a baseball cap at the table while the waiters wore formal wear. If you want treat yourself with a touch of elegance and class, this is the place.

Room Tip: Try the Royal Suite if you can afford it.

A wonderful historic building (now in the care of the National Trust) in beautiful grounds near Aylesbury. Our Royal double was spacious, comfortable and tastefully furnished in the style of the main house, although a minus point was being able to hear the shower running in the next room. Food at dinner and breakfast was excellent and the staff were friendly, helpful and professional. Definitely a place to chill out in the grounds or one of the lounges and soak up the atmosphere.

stayed here last winter for couple of nights;lovely old charm hotel;porter helped us with our cases but showed no interest in helping when we left;strange ;very poor service??
room was nice;shame no tea/coffee making facilities as drinks very expensive;breakfast adequate if nothing special;evening meals were disappointing as my partner is a veggie and options were very limited and plates as in all these so called luxury hotels were large unlike the portions!!!! pool and spa area was very nice and only a short walk from hotel;all in all was ok but too expensive for what we received and service must try being attentive during one.s whole stay and not only when one arrives.

We had a one night stay here but were very disappointed and would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
The grounds are large and it is lovely to walk around them and easy to find a secluded spot.
Rooms are large but rather tired, bathroom fittings need updating, taps would not turn off completely.
The main disappointment for us was the food. We had a light lunch at the spa cafe which was not too bad but the real disappointment was the evening meal. We opted for the tasting menu. Sorry, but this is hugely overpriced. We waited about 30 minutes for the first course and then it all seemed to come out in very quick succession. It was disappointing food, sometimes not very warm and just very average, nothing special at all. Service was quite good in the dining room.
Breakfast the next day was appalling. No available, clean tables, had to wait a while, cold toast, lukewarm coffee, cooked breakfast was awful and the fruit salad again awful. We asked for butter for our toast and the waiter turned around and picked some up from a used table next to us!
We ordered the picnic and went off to eat that, but it was served in boxes which were not suitable and had leaked everywhere. No cutlery, no napkins, and water had been forgotten, so had to trudge back to the main house to get those.
Spa was also not up to much, changing facilities poor, ridiculously hot by the pool area.
There was much confusion over our voucher on booking over the phone, we were not told to print it out, and every time we approached the desk during our stay we were constantly harassed about this voucher needing to be printed, even though we had the e-mail with the voucher number to show them on our blackberry.
Generally, there is quite a feeling of 'stuffiness ' about the place and they have nothing to be stuffy about, it is overpriced and we do not recommend it.

Stunning building and beatiful grounds. Afternoon tea was served in the beautiful drawing room, with views over the countryside. The staff were very attentitive, unobtrusive and aware of our needs.

My mother in law, had full afternoon tea which was plentiful, delicious and very well presented.
I chose the gluten free option, which included open sandwiches, scones and 3 lovely desserts,by far the tastiet and most choice than I have experienced in other hotels serving GF options.
I look foward to exploring more of Hartwell House in the future.
