My husband treated me to a lovely meal at Hartwell House yesterday evening and it was absolutely delicious. The service was excellent and the whole evening could not be faulted in any way. It was the right temperature to sit and enjoy the dinner and the staff were so nice and polite. Well Done Hartwell House!

We stayed at the Hartwell as a treat for a family wedding. The wedding was at lunchtime so we rang ahead to check we could change and book in before returning late at night. Staff were helpful and offered to take our bags up to our room, which understandably was not ready on our arrival. However, when we returned at 11.30pm after a long day our bags were still in reception which was really annoying. We were also told we were not booked in and we had to pay an astounding £180 upfront pre-authorisation to cover extras. My partner and I were only staying til the following morning. Although the hotel is expensive the two of us would have had to have serious midnight munchies to rack up such a large bill.

The room was in the servants quarters in the eaves of the house, quiet and okay, but not worth the price. It would have been nice to have tea and coffee making facilities and a duvet instead of blankets. Felt like staying in the rarely used spare room of a great aunt.

Breakfast was very nice but when we returned from our room at 10.30, the chambermaids were stripping the bed. We had to leave by 11.30 so why couldn't they wait? Even the man on reception agreed.

We were only in the hotel for less then 12 hours and it felt disorganised and not a place you could relax in. A shame. The public rooms and grounds are spectacular and the spa was pretty good. If they sort out the smaller rooms and service it could be great.

As it is we would not recommend it.

We have just returned after a family birthday party for 40 guests. The staff were all most helpful throughout the planning process, and the attention on the day was highly professional and at the same time warm and friendly - nothing was too much trouble. The food was also excellent. All our guests, from 6 to 80 years of age, had a lovely time. Our most immediate family stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed spacious rooms, combining all mod cons with period charm befitting the style of house. We made use of the spa and spa cafe for good light meals, again very friendly service. The house itself is beautiful, and in a delightful setting combining formal gardens and casual meadows and trees. We left with a very warm feeling and would recommend Hartwelll House to our friends.

After 17 years, we decided to abandon our teenage children alone with trepidation and escape to Hartwell House for one night.
We can only sing the praises of the hotel staff (except I can't sing), the chefs in the kitchen, who produced a truly wonderful dinner, without too much pomp or ceremony. The grounds were peaceful and well kept, our bedroom spacious and even the critters (squirrels?) living in the attic were not bothersome. We returned home rejuvenated to find both teenagers oblivious of our absence. Thank you to all at Hartwell house.

Special treat for son and girlfriend, his birthday. Arranged to pick up helicopter trip from here, tour over London and return for afternoon tea. (Thanks to Booker helicopter services). All went as planned thanks to excellent staff of Hartwell house and the helicopter hire company/pilot. Many thanks to all.
The tea was excellent with choice of various teas and coffee for those that wanted it. Time was happily given for us to bathe in the sun on the patio...it was the best day of the year so far.
Sandwiches excellent, scones to die for and cakes you can just about make room for. My daughter was even given a tour of hotel and suites...all round excellent

To experience a country house hotel at its best one must pay a visit to Hartwell House. Our stay from Thursday to Sunday was in celebration of our mums birthday. Dinning every day & using all the facilities. Mum stayed in a royal room (14), sister & I shared a twin standard (27). With the warm welcome and relaxed nature of the hotel one could feel as if visiting relatives, yet every high standard you would expect in a fine hotel is met. The public rooms are enchanting, restful and splendid in every way. The grounds are peaceful and beautiful, perfect for taking in nature and fresh air, in what ever fashion takes your fancy - a stroll, run, tennis, or a glass of something! We were highly impressed with the size, cleanliness and facilities in our bedrooms. Mums royal room had wonderful views, daylight in abundance and stunning decor. A grand yet understated opulence. Our standard room was surprisingly large, lots of windows & also looking out over the grounds. More than enough space to share. A walk in wardrobe each, comfortable seating and with plenty of mirror space, neither of us felt the usual restriction on sharing a twin room. Every aspect of service at Hartwell House is impeccable. Unobtrusive and seamless is how best to describe the manner in which staff conduct their duties. We frequent many a hotel and it is notable how staff at Hartwell achieve the perfect balance of friendly charm and professionalism, non of the snobbery other hotels often display. Hartwell House is pure class and sophistication. My last, and very important note is with regards to the restaurant. The menu delivers a divine choice and food served is stunning. Portions are of good size and in our opinion, priced very fairly. I come with strict dietary restrictions, and literally never before have I been so well catered for. Not a single mistake made. Further, every effort was made to factor out the usual stress dinning can entail. I was able to relax with pre-chosen meals and truly enjoy my experience of dinning with family. Our stay was made even more perfect by mum having the most special birthday time. We all agreed Hartwell House is a destination well deserving of a long drive just for the restaurant.... better still.... to stay the night.

With its swathes of daffodils, rolling parkland and warm, honey-coloured stone, Hartwell House is a perfect setting for any kind of rest and relaxation. Add a warm welcome, big squashy sofas and lofty rooms; and it's pretty much perfect. Afternoon tea is all that it should be; imaginative finger sandwiches, fruit and plain scones (accompanied of course, by bowls of strawberry jam and clotted cream), eclairs, tiny sponge cakes and fresh fruit tartlets. Choose your preferred tea, which comes with plenty of extra hot water and a complete top-up just as you were thinking that a second pot might be nice.
Attentive, friendly staff make the experience neither fussy nor formal; and the only disappointment is having to leave.
