My daughter and I just spent 1 night here for a spa break. It was wonderful - lovely surroundings, elegant and comfortable accommodation, super food, quiet, peaceful, relaxing, friendly and attentive staff. The spa is great too - not huge but very attractive and, again, the staff were wonderful - especially when my daughter became unwell towards the end of our stay. They could not have been more helpful and caring. Really is one of the nicest places we've ever stayed.

Me and my husband went here for traditional afternoon cream teas, and was warmly welcomed. The food was lovely and lots of it. After tea we walked around the grounds and it was so peaceful and beautiful view.

A beautiful hotel set in wonderful grounds. The staff are so attentive yet unobtrusive. A short distance from London and Oxford. An idyllic get away in the heart of the country. The food is of the highest standard with excellent service.

Room Tip: All rooms in the main house are excellent.

I stayed at Hartwell for two nights. I got married at Waddesdon Manor so Hartwell seemed like the perfect fit.Its absolutely stunning. The service is impeccable. A perfect 5 star experience.

We had our own Butler the whole time and he was absolutely brilliant. Anything we needed he would sort straight away.

The house is very grand and very well kept. Lots of things to do and see in the area and great to just walk around the grounds and have afternoon tea.

Would highly recommend.

Thank you for a wonderful stay. We will be back every anniversary.

We stayed for three nights midweek for a special celebration. The staff were very attentive and welcoming. This is such an historic building and it is great that people like us can enjoy its splendour today. Quietly reading in the library or enjoying coffee and liqueurs (and homemade chocolates) there after dinner - quite the 'Downton' experience! The restaurant is expensive but the food is of a high quality to match and there is a wide range of wines to suit most budgets on the list. The Spa is good but the steam room was out of order when we stayed. The 'hot tub' outside in the light rain was fun! The grounds are splendid and if the weather had been kinder, we would have made more of the many walks apparently available. One criticism - standard sliced bread for toast at breakfast and sandwiches! Surely some 'artisan' bread would be more befitting such a grand hotel! Notwithstanding, this is a great place to stay and we would highly recommend it for a 'get away from it all' short break, as it is so easy to relax there.

Room Tip: Ask for a superior room if within budget - there are some very grand ones!

I live in Buckinghamshire so have never stayed here, but have had lunch many times. It is fairly expensive, but everything is of the highest quality - food, service and surroundings. The dining and reception rooms are furnished with high quality antiques and a few 'reproduction' pieces and paintings, all of which perfectly match and complement the style of the house. Enjoying these rooms with a pre-lunch drink or post-lunch coffee is all part of the fun of eating here. The service and setting is formal; however, it's not intimidating - the staff take their cue from the customer not (as happens in certain other establishments) the other way around. As long as you know how to hold a knife and fork and can dress reasonably tidily you will enjoy visiting this superb house - even if it has to be only for the odd special occasion.

If you are planning a special meal or sunday lunch look no further. What an excellent venue, for feeling as though you were special. The house and surrounding gardens are beautiful, and to be welcomed at the door and shown to a very comfortable but sophisticated drawing room for pre dinner drinks and canapés just starts your dining experience off to a great start. The staff are very attentive but also discrete. The food was excellent and the price was what you would expect. We didn't stay overnight but judging by our lovely time spent there we would guess the rooms would also be well worth a visit.
