“Decent Value, but set your standards at average.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2014

The water park is pretty good; 2 fully enclosed, twisty slides that begin inside, go outside and then finish back inside (one fast, one slow...you must be at least 42" tall for both), a large (25 person) hot tub, a 30-40 person pool with a basketball hoop and a kids play area (1 foot deep) with three little slides (two open, one enclosed), rain buckets and waterfalls. For $160, you get the room, 4 water park passes good for the day you check in and the day you check out, $25 free play at Batavia Downs and a $25 voucher for the breakfast buffet ($9.95 for adults, $6.95 for kids), a free drink and appetizer at the hotel restaurant with the purchase of the same). The smallish size of the water park is perfect for 3-4 hours of fun before getting bored. The room quality was not great, with multiple crusty stains on the carpet, a bathroom that wreaked of smoke, beds as hard as rocks and an outdated and SMALL bathroom, but they do have a mini fridge and microwave, which is convienent.

We just returned from an over night stay with our 6 year old grandson. While this is an aging hotel, it was clean and very well managed. The waterpark was a lot of fun for my grandson on Sat. and Sun. We purchased the waterpark package which included several vouchers. We used the $25 breakfast one and ended up paying outright $4 plus a tip. The selection was good, the food was hot and even the fresh fruit was fresh! The seating and service was well-organized, not the usual motel rush and elbowing. The staff was very accommodating. Knowing that this hotel would probably be two-thirds full of small children, we braced ourselves for the worst, but were pleasantly surprised.

The waterpark itself was wonderful. It is perfect for kids 12 and under (which I have) and there are plenty of lifeguards on duty. The lifeguards don't take any crap either... They discipline as necessary to keep lines flowing and the park safe for everyone, while still being very pleasant/cordial. The front desk staff was also wonderful- very friendly and accommodating. That is where the good half of my review ends. While this hotel has a lot of potential, it is nowhere near meeting it. The parking lot was not adequately plowed, the side entrance door didn't even close all the way, making the elevator area way colder than it should be for people running around in wet bathing suits. As we were walking to our room we noticed that there was a dirty plate and 2 champagne glasses on the floor outside the room next to ours. When we were getting settled, my toddler dropped her toy and it rolled under the bed. Upon lifting the bedskirt to retrieve it, I found someone else's flip flop and WHOLE LOT of dirt/debris with it. My skin crawled. I went later that evening to make myself a cup of coffee and found a dirty coffee filter with grounds still in it and the pot had burned on coffee in it with grounds. Clearly our room had not been cleaned before we arrived. There were no tissues anywhere in the room or the bathroom. We dined in the on premises Oasis Restaurant. We were given a coupon for a free appetizer (which was the chef's choice not yours) and a free drink (which was buy one get one free not just free outright). The food was good. The next morning we went to the same restaurant for breakfast as we were given a $25 voucher. We found a sign declaring the only thing offered was the buffet. Unfortunately for me, I had gastric bypass surgery and could not possibly eat anywhere near what a normal adult would, let alone what a child would eat. We were charged for 2 adults, 1 child (our youngest was not charged due to being only 1) and we still owed $4 after the voucher was deducted. FOR BREAKFAST. We usually will stay on an extra day when we're having fun but we were glad to move on. Did I mention that housekeeping never cleaned our room? That is because the only time they showed up was at 4pm when my daughter and I were napping. I placed the Do Not Disturb sign on on the door, and still she knocked and entered before I could even get up out of bed. When we left I had a chuckle and shook my head as I noticed (you guessed it) the SAME dirty plate and champagne glasses on the floor outside the next room. They were there our entire 3 day stay.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the back corridor - it's closer to the water park so you don't have to drip...

This hotel has great potential, but it is in serious need of updating. The Palm Island Waterpark is great and the perfect size for families with young children. The hotel on the other hand is one of the worst hotels I've stayed in. I was afraid to let my children touch anything, it felt so dirty. The carpets are filthy, the bedding is dated, and the room as a whole was in disrepair.

The only reason this hotel is surviving is because of the water park. There are so few water park hotels in the area, that people tolerate the rundown hotel so that they can take their kids to a water park. It's about time Clarion hotel invests some money in this place and brings the room conditions to a more appropriate standard. This place has great potential but until they start renovating, I'll be crossing the border and staying at the water park hotels in Niagara Falls, Canada.

Thank you for seeing the potential in us. We are working hard to turn that into reality. I hope your next visit will be pleasant. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the waterpark.

We had a room with bed bugs. The hotel was also very budget and their rooms were freezing. Only good thing about it is the front desk lady who was very nice and apologetic and changed our room for us without any delay or fuss.

We have not had any bed bug problems in our hotel. I respectfully disagree with your review about some of the rooms having bed bugs. The review is questionable.I have investigated with our staff and no such report submitted stating there was a bed bug problem in any of the rooms. We take this very seriously, and will not tolerate any review to tarnish our reputation. We will be investigating further to verify the legitimacy of this review. Thank you

Though this isn't the biggest indoor water park i have been to, the value is great and very young kid friendly. I have heard it will be expanding soon and will be even better for older kids and adults, although all ages seemed to be having fun. The price is great, the staff is great, the hotel is great, the place is clean and even the snack shop and water park store is very affordable. I had to get my granddaughter a bathing suit because hers didn't fit and i bought it right there for $15! Life vests are on loan for free and all the towels you want can be grabbed at will. I recommend you give this water park a try. They even have day passes for locals who just want to have some water fun in the winter....also very affordable by the way. Thank you Tom and the rest of Palm Island staff!

We felt our patronage was extremely valued. We chose to stay here for two nights as a fun family adventure to spend some quality time together to end the winter break from school. Every interaction with the staff was friendly and professional. They made sure we were accomidated for every need. The waterpark was lots of fun. The staff there were wonderful. The waterpark is very clean. The lifeguards were extremely attentive and kind. The room was nicer than we anticipated. We ate three times from the hotel resturant. The food was great. Selection of optionas available were plentiful. Over all, we were extremely happy and do plan to return.
