This restaurant is worth travelling for, we are glad we found it. We discovered it in the winter and have been back three times since then. The last time we visited we took friends along too, and a good dinner was had by all! Such warm and welcoming service, delicious food and a wonderful atmosphere in a lovely building. The varied specials board means there are always new options to try even for repeat visitors like us. Venture out of Bicester or Aylesbury and find the Cook & Fillet, it's the gem of the A41!

My wife and I just called in at The Cook & Fillet on a Thursday evening and can thoroughly recommend it. We realised this was the same chain, Oakland Inns, as The Beech House in Beaconsfield and having had such a good experience there, thought we’d try The Cook & Fillet as it is much closer to Bicester.

This is a very nice restaurant with a comfortable spacious feel, very good food and very good friendly service. Well done keep it up. See you again soon.

Hi Steve,

We’re so pleased that we lived up to your expectations after your great meal at the Beech House in Beaconsfield! At Oakman Inns we really value consistency throughout all of our sites, and it’s really nice to hear that this is something we’ve achieved.

As you live in Bicester you might be interested to hear that we also have sites in Wallingford (The Old Post Office), Abingdon (The Crown and Thistle) and Witney (The Blue Boar).

If you do happen to stop by one of these, we’d really love to hear what you think!

Came here to meet with a couple of friends for coffee. I had been here before for a few Xmas dos but the place has really moved on recently! It had a great feel about the place and the service was excellent. We ended up staying for lunch too and the food was fantastic and reasonably priced. As the weather was nice we sat outside - couldn't have picked a nicer place to be on a sunny day! I will definitely be back!

Staying nearby we arranged to meet my sister here for lunch. The day was sunny and warm so we chose to eat outside. I chose to hve a light bite and a starter as I wasn't overly hungry. It consisted of deep fried halloumi with cherry chutney and brushette of tomatoes (3 different varieties) and buffalo mozzarella. Both were very tasty and really enjoyed. My partner had chicken in a tomato linguine and my sister a king prawn and garlic linguine if my memory serves me right. They both enjoyed their food. The service was very good. We were well looked after with a warm and friendly banter between us and the staff. Very enjoyable. We will definitely eat here again.

Dropped into the Cook and Fillet, which is on the A41 headed to Biscester, so no prizes for guessing who the place is targeting. That said there are plenty of locals in search of a good feed at a reasonable price.

The format is that of a gastro diner, new category this, it is based on the US all day food available diner model, although here in Europe we call these cafes!

Menu is well divided with a nice choice covering all bases, except gluten free. Prices are probably £1-2 too high on both the starters and the mains. The cake selection was quite poor, give that this is an all day eatery they need to up their game on cakes and puds.

We ordered eggs benedict and a fritata, both had been waiting on the pass for too long and the eggs had gone hard and cold and the fritata had overcooked itself in its own skillet.

Would go back and give it a try during either lunch or dinner to see if the service and the food delivery improved.

Hi Jpmcg69,

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave your feedback, it’s so helpful to hear what our customers want.

First I’d like to address the issue of pricing. You mentioned that you feel our food is a little expensive and so I’d like to reassure you that at Oakman Inns we are expressly committed to only using the very best, locally produced ingredients, as delicious food can only be made with equally delicious ingredients. Unfortunately, this means we pay a little more for it. For example, all our meat is premium quality 100% British and sourced from Aubrey Allen, who won 'Ethical Meat Supplier of the Year' three times. Our pork, chicken and eggs are all free range and our beef is dry-aged on the bone for 21 days to tenderise the meat and intensify the flavour. This is something that is reflected fairly in our prices, which remain competitive for the area. If you would like to know a little more about our suppliers, then please feel free to watch this short video clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBBKGKvXtpo

I’m sorry to hear, however, that your breakfast was not up to our usually high standard. We’d love for you to come back at another time and sample our lunchtime and dinner menus. We also have a delicious selection of daily specials too. Do let us know what you think on your next visit!

We’ll definitely take on board your comment about our selection of cakes and puddings too. Feel free to let us know if you have any suggestions!

Hope to see you again soon

The Cook and Fillet Team
