“Good Value. Nice eats after a day at the beach.”
Reviewed 26 July 2011

Pretty much just what we were looking for after spending the day at Robert Moses.

Service was really good with a very friendly and attentive wait staff. We did not feel rushed and the wait staff was not intrusive - they checked on us often enough, sometimes from a distance. Just about perfect.

Wife had a salad and Crab Cakes which she said were very good. I had the broiled seafood dinner which was good overall. I thought the shrimp were a little bit overcooked and I like my seafood stuffing a bit spicier. We'd definitely go back if in the area. Maybe next time, I'll try one of the chowders or a fried boat.

Did not realize that parking behind the restaurant was "valet" parking until after we pulled into the lot. Parking on the street would have been just as good. Note that the ferry terminal is right on the same street so the area can get crowded really fast...

“Go to this clam bar”
Reviewed 16 March 2009

One day, you find yourself in Bay Shore...possibly coming off a ferry... Within the immediate area there are 6 clam bars...let alone a whole buncha others. Anyway, most of the time you get off the ferry and see 3 establishments immediately: Nicky's Clam Bar, Chowder Bar, and Molly Malone's.
I tried the last one first....big mistake, ugh
Nicky's is nothing to complain about, but you pay slightly more for the view of the bar...and it has a tendency to be more crowded.
Chowder Bar is the place you should go first. The prices are reasonable and the food is fresh, fast, and cooked perfectly. The pace is a little slower here and more like a neighborhood eatery, instead of a drunken clam bar.... actually, that's what makes this clam bar stand-out, it has that family owned feeling that they are in it for the food and the joy, not just for the easy money this prime location is otherwise prone to.
