“Swauna Inn”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014

This is really a tail of two B&Bs. Was the best of times, it was the worst of times. The rooms appear clean and the breakfast was very good and the owners very helpful and accommodating. However, we stayed in the end of May and it was very, very hot outside... the rooms had no air conditioning and it must have been over 90 in the rooms at night - the upstairs was a good 10 degrees warmer than the downstairs - hence the revised name from Swann and sauna to the Swauna Inn. Also, two of the rooms upstairs share a bathroom which is not convenient. As others have mentioned, the outside of the home needs some work but the inside is well kept.

All of our rooms are air conditioned and now every room has it's own bathroom. Every year, we take on a new restoration project for our home. This year, we installed a beautifull 4 piece new bath room in the Blue Sky Room for our guests comfort.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Swann Inn. We got driven to and from the train station, and got a tour around town—Neil gave us recommendations and was very accommodating the whole time. The breakfasts each morning were unique and wonderful, and the Red Parlor room we stayed in was beautiful. I'd just make sure to get back to the Inn before it gets dark (or have a car), as the streets get dark.

All in all, a wonderful stay. We'll be staying with the Swann Inn next time we're in Beacon!

Wonderful hosts. They pick you up from the train station and give you rides into town. Also, there's nothing like a home made breakfast -- french toast and bowls of fruit and yogurt. Neil (the host) also leads tours to Bannerman Castle later during the year, alas we will have to come back.

Room Tip: We stayed in the red parlor suite. It's a superb room, comfy bed, warm heater and very convenien...

The Swann Inn of Beacon took our booking at the last minute, and our host Neil came and picked us up from town.

We had a drive-by tour of the township, with Neil pointing out good places to eat and things to do in the town.

The house is a 5 minute drive from Main St, right near the entrance to the hiking trails. It's a short walk to the centre of town, but if you're feeling lazy, Neil will happily drive you in.

The rooms and breakfast were wonderful. Constant supply of hot drinks and cookies. They catered very well to my gluten free needs and also recommended good places for this in town. Beds were luxurious and very comfortable.

I would happily return for another stay.

We had a lovely time at the Swann Inn and the owners were more than gracious in every aspect of our stay. Aside from being clean and warm, the Inn had many creature comforts we were very pleased to find such as home made cookies in the evening and a fully stocked coffee/tea bar! We intend to come back again.

We stayed in the tranquility suite, which is the family room with own bath and more spacious. The hostess was very professional and helpful on the phone when we booked it. Bed: Soft and comfortable. Heating was quite toasty too. Nice thick toilet paper. Lighting: Unfortunately the days we were there were a bit chilly and overcast so we were unable to enjoy the town or the rooms in the daylight. The lighting is a bit dim but appropriate for the style of the decor. Breakfast: Half fruit and half main dish (pumpkin pancakes one day and spinach quiche next), and beautifully arranged. Very good if you are a healthy breakfast person. We personally like a hefty breakfast with meats and potato so it was not quite our thing. Decor: A bit crowded on the knicknacks. Seems to have acquired more stuff since the promo pics were taken. Our room had nice touches though like a few games and videos. And did I mention the fluffy thick luxurious toilet paper? Overall: Could do with a once-over streamline touch-up but a truly lovely house (low child height windows in tranquility suite my 2 year old enjoyed) that I felt it was a privilege to stay in. Was happy to be there. The imperfections made it interesting and the attention made it heartwarming. Also innkeepers did not crowd us in any way so it was comfortable being there.

We stayed mid-week for two nights at the Swann Inn in the Red Parlour Room and it was a delightful experience! Beautifully decorated and warm room (maybe a little too warm if you leave the heater on always) not far from the Main Street of Beacon and easy access by car to Dia Gallery, Storm King sculpture park and the river. Neal and Darlene gave wonderful service and I have never been so well looked after as a celiac. The breakfasts were delicious. (Little tip if you arrive after 7pm and are looking for a bottle of wine, drive 5 mins to one of the nearby counties where they are permitted to sell alcohol until 10pm ;)
