My wife and I went here on a my old school for a weekend. She had never seen it and I wanted to touch base with a place of many youthful adventures. It was miserable cold so we didn't do too much walking around especially since it was such awesome view with a roaring fire in the lobby with games, tv and perfect ambience for putting your feet up in front of the fire and letting the stress fade away. We will be back.

Room Tip: It also has a wonderful capability to do events such a family reunions or weddings. We almost moved our wedding here, but we had way too many friends and family that would have to travel so we kept it in Virginia.

My husband and I stayed at Bear Mountain Inn for 1 night Labor Day weekend. Very pleased we did. We were a little skeptical after the mixed reviews, but decided to give it a chance bc we love hiking up there. Very beautiful area.

Hotel Pros:
friendly front staff.
Had no issues with parking (but can see how it CAN be an issue as it gets crowded and everything is ran by NYS). Parking is FREE for guests. $8 otherwise
Room was descent size (what we expected) and clean. Bed was comfortable.
bathroom was spacious; water temperature and pressure were fine.
Room had fridge and microwave as well as coffee maker
Dinner @ restaurant 1915 was FANTASTIC. as NYC foodies- its difficult to please us and we were very impressed with the menu, presentation, taste and service

CONs (reason for 4 stars not 5)
room was dim
room has NO SAFE (its 2013- i thought that was standard)
Complimentary continental breakfast was lacking and disorganized: eg, no one was supervising the food table:
they ran out of plates and napkins and only when brought to staff attention- was restocked.
There was no choice of skim/low fat milk for cereal (haven't experienced that since childhood continental buffets)
There was a sugar-free maple syrup but not regular syrup until someone asked for it. Would rec getting jam as well
Line to make the waffle was very long. consider getting 2nd waffle maker since that is the star entree of the breakfast.
Overall, we felt like it was disorganized and/or perhaps understaffed. Could be better. Fortunately it was complimentary.

OVERALL, would stay again. I do think there is a little room for improvement.

Thank you very much for your review of your recent trip to Bear Mountain. We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay.
I have forwarded your comments directly to our food and beverage team regarding breakfast. These are small adjustments, that we can certainly change immediately to ensure all our guests have a better breakfast experience.
Restaurant 1915 and Blue Roof Tapas Bar are excellent venues, and we are so excited that you enjoyed it from a "foodie's" perspective.
Thank you again for your visit and review. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future.

All the Best!

Charm, natural beauty, great service, wonderful rooms. This is a great choice in the area. I arrived exhausted and was thrilled to see how really lovely this hotel is. It is quiet and full of that backwoods charm. I had the opportunity to take a short hike after my work day and then just relax and enjoy the views. I stayed here for business, but there were lots of families with really happy children sporting “junior ranger” hats and having a great time. The staff are delightful and very helpful as well.

Room Tip: In addition to the main lodge there are some really cool looking stone cabins that might also be good choices - especially for families.

My friend and I stayed at the inn for two nights after long days of hiking the Appalachian Trail. Every employee we came in contact with, (housekeeping, wait staff, front desk, spa) was exceedingly pleasant and helpful! We had a few small special requests during our stay and each one was filled promptly. We had a fabulous meal at the 1915 restaurant (the hanger steak) and thoroughly enjoyed the comfort of the beds and pillows, as our bodies were rather sore!
As some previous reviewers have noted, the only negative to this location is the lack of attention to the park area by NYS. (I hope the Inn forwards those reviews to the Parks Department)
We had such a great time hiking the beautiful trails that we are planning to return in October!

Our extended family just returned from a 3 night stay at the Bear Mountain Inn. Our group ranged in age from 10 months to 79 years and there was something for everyone. We had such a good time that we're already talking about plans for a repeat vacation next year! It is the perfect spot. So much to do right there at Bear Mountain State park - walking around the lake, paddle boating or rowing on the lake, hiking, the pool, the zoo, the merry-go-round, biking, driving to Perkins Tower for spectacular views. There is also so much to do in very close driving distance - West Point, Storm King Art Center, Manitoga, Cold Spring, Woodbury Outlets Center - we kept saying "so much to do - so little time".
The hotel rooms are very spacious and very nicely redone. They still have some kinks to work out with the Air Conditioning - but we have the assurance from the VERY helpful and courteous staff that they are working on it.
Bobby at the front desk took wonderful care of us and really made us feel at home.
We are so happy to have found this GEM.
