Had a very comfortable three-night stay at the Doubletree in downtown Binghamton, and I see why it's likely the highest rated property in the area. It appears to have been recently renovated, and they did a great job with the refresh. All furnishing and treatments in the rooms were very new and nicely done. The beds were very comfortable, and the rooms were spacious (larger than an average hotel room). The rooms were very quiet, as well.
Ate a few meals (breakfast and dinner) in the hotel restaurant, and it was very good, too. The breakfast was just above average – nothing wrong with it, but nothing terribly fancy for a hotel – but the dinners were great.
The downtown area itself is not much, but there did seem to be some restaurants within walking distance.
Only downside to the hotel was that the WiFi was relatively slow, both in the rooms and in the lobby, and the business center computers were virtually useless.
