“A Great Experience of Adirondack Life”

Although an hour's trip from Lake Placid, the nearest major resort area, the Adirondack Museum is well worth a visit. The complex is much larger than expected, with 20+ exhibit buildings of all different sizes. In addition to a great scenic location with views out over Blue Mountain Lake, there is a nice simple food service, great gift shop and lots of choices among the exhibits. Families or folks of all ages should enjoy the selection, from train cars, to dozens of boats, to Adirondack rustic furniture, to tales of life in the lumbering and mining industries of the mountains. We (four adults) expected to spend a couple of hours, but ended up staying from late morning until closing.

“this is an incredible place”

don't let the word 'museum' scare you off. This is not a dusty old building with dusty displays. There is much to see and do, indoors and out. I would recommend planning a whole day here. A lot of people just drive up from Syracuse and then drive back the same day, but there are plenty of places to stay between Old Forge to the south and Tupper Lake to the north. The museum also has an annual art show and an antique show among other activities. Kids will enjoy the hands-on displays, activities and just plain running around. The museum also has a big gift shop and a cafeteria, we sometimes bring a picnic lunch and eat outside under the trees near the parking lot.
