“Relaxation in the Adirondacks”

I have been going to Hemlock Hall since 1977, and it is a slice of heaven. It is a wonderful place that I look forward to going to every year. We make sure to arrive early so we can get the amazing breakfast that they prepare every day. The food is incredible -- don't miss Saturday night's turkey dinner -- and the atmosphere is incredibly relaxed. Make sure to stop by the lodge at night when Paul (the owner) makes fresh bread. Hot from the oven, it is fabulous! My family and I look forward to our trip every year!

Fabulous place to stay right on an immaculate Adirondack Lake. Plenty of recreational aopportunities. The proprietor is friendly and the food ample. Accommodations in cabins are rustic, but clean. It would be nice if the bathrooms were updated.

Who could ask for more? This is definitely where you want to stay when you're touring the Adirondacks. Our cabin was roomy and comfortable, with a great view of the lake. The breakfasts and dinners were included in the price, and were everything you could want (they'll also make up a box lunch to order for a very reasonable price). The hosts were friendly and accommodating, and the rest of the workers were equally eager to please. Our stay was memorable and fun! We loved the family style dining, where our assigned table was switched for each meal, and we got to meet everyone else who was lodging there. All in all, we'll be going back.

My first time at Hemlock Hall, I arrived with a friend by canoe from Old Forge, 35 miles away. A thunderstorm whipped the lake into big, frothy waves and after a hair-raising ride in a cross wind, we took refuge in a boathouse until the storm passed. By the time we beached at Hemlock Hall, it was dark and the dinner that we had been looking forward to was long past. Wet and tired, we tramped up the hill to the hall. Paul, the owner, met us and sat us down before the fire in a cozy library room. He insisted on making us heaps of turkey on homemade bread and the most delicious chocolate cake in the world. I have experienced many other kindnesses from Paul since on my visits, including finding me a comfortable place to sleep where there was none when I arrived on 9/11 to find departing guests unable to leave. Another time I left a paddle behind and Paul shipped it to me, refusing payment for the postage. The location is gorgeous, the camp is historic and decorated in the traditional Adirondack style. It is a place to kick back, relax, and take it slow. The food is plentiful and good. There is easy access to all mountain and lake activities. Paul has lots of equipment and there is an outfitter a short distance away in the town of Blue Mountain Lake. The Adirondack Museum is just up the road and other great Adirondack towns, like Old Forge, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, and Lake Placid are within reach for day trips.

Room Tip: My favorite rooms are in the main house, lake side.

Been the the Adirondacks many times, but this was the first time at Hemlock Hall. We enjoyed it so much. The scenery is beautiful and even though we had gray, cool and somewhat rainy weather, we enjoyed the lodge, the people, the staff. The food is wholesome and abundant, served family style and everyone gets to talk at the dinner table. My husband and I plan to return next fall; the foliage and colors were incredible.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the motel units, but really it was like a cabin. Bring your own hair dryer and...

How long until next year? Another great "home" experience with Paul and his staff. Seven years visiting and counting. Each year we wonder can it get any better? It does! This year we had a treat with Pete and a Saturday night magician's performance for kids and all the other guests. What fun. Our daughter's family shares our time at Hemlock Hall and it doesn't get any better than that. Making new friends, the swimming, the kayaking, the fishing. Oh, the fishing. Paul prepared two of the fish my husband caught and served at our table and a number of families enjoyed the taste of really fresh fish. We have traveled many places but have never been treated as special as we are treated at Hemlock Hall. Thank you Paul and all your friendly staff. Becky, the blueberries were a hit!

Room Tip: Guest cottage is great for a family gathering if you have more than one family visiting with you. L...

My husband and I have vacationed with our kids in a cabin on this lake forever, but this year decided to do something different: We left the family at home and tried out both of the camp resorts that offer meals with lodging on the water. What a revelation Hemlock Hall was. This is how all lodging should be run. We spent nights in 2 cabins that were typical of the Adirondack camp style, with meals taken at the beautiful main lodge. Sitting in our rocking chairs along the porch rail while someone's child rang the dinner bell, and having wonderful conversations with our fellow guests over hearty meals, we felt we had missed a lot by not bringing our families to this place for years, as all our fellow travelers had. On the day that we moved to other lodging, we paddled kayaks back over to Hemlock Hall and watched their "olympic" events from the water. Everyone was cheering and laughing. This was a place with traditions that we had only begun to understand and we missed it immediately.

Room Tip: Do allow them to put you in the best cabin or room available, even if you have to move to another du...
