“A must for Autumn”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

We discovered this lodge by accident while visiting the Syracuse University site next door many, many years ago. We have gone back time and time again and have yet to be disappointed. It is a true Adirondack lodge, not a luxurious hotel. It has character and heart. It is friendly and warm and beautiful and relaxing. The food is served family style and conversation is immediate with your table-mates. It is not gourmet food but good wholesome fare. The lodging is varied, from rooms in the lodge with shared bath to motel rooms to cottages with kitchens, etc. We have always had a view of the lake so we sip our wine before dinner and contemplate the world or nothing at all. I love coming here and and would sorely miss our yearly visit.

We stayed in this lodge only for one night. It is perfectly located in the midst of the forest and adjacent to the Blue Mountain lake. The lodge has also a number of cottages, some of which are facing the lake actually. We have been received in a most friendly way and introduced to the habits of the place. Unlike most other places, this lodge includes in the price dinner and breakfast, which both are taken at a punctual time and with all visitors together.
Ten minutes before dinner a bell rings. Half an hour before breakfast a bell rings. Quite strange to us, reminding us a bit of school discipline.

We found the price to be rather high (243 USD) for one night, including dinner and breakfast.
Moreover we found it inconvenient that no credit cards are accepted.

We have stayed in the Green Room, which, certainly in the fall or winter season we would not recommend at all, because there is no heating in this room, either in the room or the bathroom.
>Moreover, the room is very noisy. You hear all that is said downstairs.

We are certainly not against the system of punctual breakfast and dinner, as such, but for us it was inconvenient because we wanted to leave early in the morning and that was impossible since breakfast came only at 8.30.

The building and site is beautiful. Meals for Standard American Diet are over abundant and I was told they recently added the salads and green vegetables. The vegan meals were fair, one okay, one poorly made and no effort was made to make us a dessert. Our room in the Inn was tiny with two double beds under eaves. Lots of living areas to relax and a lot of wonderful people to meet and talk to. Nearby is the Adirondack Museum, do not miss and not far is the "Wilds" at Tupper Lake, great for kids of all ages.

Room Tip: Ask for a large room, perhaps in one of the cottages or the motel, I don't know...

I called HH about 3 weeks ago to see if there was any avaiability - there was none. I received a surprise phone call a week laterthat there had been a cancellation and that they had a cabin for the following week. Little did I realize how very lucky we were. The lodge, property and cabin (we stayed in the Balsam) were absolutely lovely. I was told that the kitchen and bathroom in the cabin had just been renovated which was wonderful. I'm a stickler for good water pressure in the shower and it was as good as it is at home. The food and good and ample, nothing fancy - just good old fashioned meals - turkey, roast beef, chicken dinners with all the fixens'. Breakfasts included home baked bread, eggs, bacon and pancakes. Simply prepared - no fancy omlettes or waffles. Meals are served family style so if you are uncomfortable with that this HH is not the place for you. Most of the other guests have been coming back for years and know each other - but all very friendly and welcoming. I don't think we are going to be able to return with a reservation b/c there are so many repeat guests that they book up the summer before. Hopefully someone will cancel which will offer us an opportunity to return next summer. All in all - a lovely place with the feeling of yester year!

Room Tip: I haven't seen the other rooms or cabins - but definitely ask for a cabin with a view of the lak...

We stayed at Hemlock Hall in Blue Mountain Lake for 1 overnite....it was wonderful. We were in the Brook Room and you could hear the babbling of the brook lull you to sleep. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful...the food was incredible.....they even brought you warm seconds!! We will go back for sure. Beautiful place on a beautiful lake.

I have been going to Hemlock Hall since 1977, and it is a slice of heaven. It is a wonderful place that I look forward to going to every year. We make sure to arrive early so we can get the amazing breakfast that they prepare every day. The food is incredible -- don't miss Saturday night's turkey dinner -- and the atmosphere is incredibly relaxed. Make sure to stop by the lodge at night when Paul (the owner) makes fresh bread. Hot from the oven, it is fabulous! My family and I look forward to our trip every year!
